Stephen M. Gilbert is a professor of operations management at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.

Gilbert has expertise in optimization, game theory, and stochastic modeling. His research uses mathematical models to analyze the strategic interactions among companies and consumers, with the goal of improving understanding of nonobvious implications and limitations of specific business practices.

He has published more than 35 peer-reviewed papers, which have appeared in Operations Research, Management Science, Marketing Science, Production and Operations Management, Manufacturing & Services Operations Management, and other well-regarded journals. These publications have received close to 6,000 Google Scholar citations. He currently serves as an associate editor for Management Science and as a senior editor for POMS.

Gilbert served Texas McCombs for four years as the chair of the Department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management, and he is a past president of the MSOM Society of INFORMS.

He holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in industrial engineering from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in operations management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
