Halliburton Business Foundations Summer Institute (HBFSI) Application

The Institute allows students to complete 5 BFP courses, 15 credit hours, in one 8-week summer session. Applications are available now.  Apply early to guarantee availability.

Prerequisites and Eligibility

  • Current UT non-business majors not graduating before 5/30/2012.
  • A 3.0 overall UT GPA. Students with GPA below 3.0 will be conditionally considered.

  • I B 320F – International Business
  • MAN 320F – Foundations of Management
  • MKT 320F – Foundations of Marketing
  • FIN 320F – Foundations of Finance

Additional Benefits

In addition to completing the certificate program in a single summer session*, Institute participants also benefit from a number of other learning opportunities not offered during the normal school year. These include:

  • Class size limited to 50 students
  • Situational leadership and team-building learning in Marketplace and Stock Market simulations 
    — Marketplace is an international business simulation teaching students the impact of dynamic business and product development.
  • Professional development opportunities, including:
    — Creating compelling resumes and cover letters
    — Making effective presentations
    — Polishing interviewing skills in Mock Interviews
    — Developing successful dining manners through an Etiquette Luncheon

* To complete the BFP certificate and have it appear on your transcript at graduation, you must also complete three hours of Economics, three hours of any Statistics course and MIS 302F or equivalent. A list of equivalent courses is on the program website. It is recommended that these courses be completed prior to participation, but they are not required to enroll in the HBFSI.

Program Costs 

  •  Total cost of program, including textbooks, is $4,500 and is financial aid eligible.  
  •  Tuition Reduction Opportunities 
    — Halliburton target students (those majoring in Engineering, Geosciences, Computer Science, and Economics) may be eligible to receive a tuition reduction. These awards are based on merit. 
    — Applicants with at least a 3.5 GPA in these select majors will automatically qualify if applications are received by 12/15/2011. The first round of program admittance and tuition reduction awards will be made by 1/15/12 to eligible students. Our second round of admittance will be 3/15/12.
  • Housing is not provided but can be arranged through an on campus dormitory.
  • Cost does not include access to some University services, including but not limited to, RecSports and UT Libraries.

Registration

  • Applications accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Apply early!
  • Once admitted, registration for this unique program is handled through University Extension. Grades appear on UT transcripts and are included in students' UT GPA's.  All students will be required to complete a signed form with their academic advisors to confirm residence.
  •  Up to 100 students will be selected to participate in the 2012 HBFSI with a rolling waiting list.
  • Once selected, a $250.00 non-refundable fee is due by March 1, 2012.
  • The remainder of the tuition is due by May 1, 2012.
