Target Your Future (TYF) offers a small, group setting to BBA students for those “off the record” questions with industry professionals, professors and upperclassmen. The seven-week program covers career topics designed to increase your knowledge, experience and confidence. This new insight will broaden your perspective on potential industries and employers, and help build your professional network. TYF strengthens your career decision-making skills through personal exploration, mentorships and networking.

Building Connections, Fostering Success

Seminar Series

The weekly seminar series offers an opportunity for small roundtable discussions on a variety of career-related topics. Panel sessions include industry professionals, professors, mentors, and upperclassmen. Students are able to connect with employers recruiting undergraduate business students, and learn what it takes to be their ideal candidate.

Student Mentors

Students are divided into small groups and matched with mentors, who are typically former TYF participants. Student mentors offer valuable insight on career development to their mentees, and they organize networking and social activities for the group.

Professional Mentor Program

Students are matched with professionals in an industry area of their interest. Professional mentors share personal experience and knowledge through a phone and email conversations.

Etiquette Dinner & Networking Reception

TYF shares an evening with BBA Women’s Council, McCombs Diversity Council and industry professionals. Participants share a three-course meal where students and professionals learn the dos and don’ts for professional dining etiquette.

TYF Trek

Employers host on-site visits to expand each participant's understanding of various industries and company cultures. Students observe first-hand how majors transition into career opportunities.

Brandon Roye, Program Manager

Brandon Roye

Program Manager

Brandon Roye is a second year junior from Spring, Texas who is pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management. Brandon started as a TYF participant in the Fall of 2013 and is now the Program Manager for the Fall 2014 – Spring 2015 school year.

Brandon completed an accounting internship at Goodman Manufacturing in the Houston Galleria Area. Additionally, Brandon has experience waiting tables, catering, and training new employees in a community retirement home.

He plans to study abroad through the Supply Chain Management program in Hong Kong. Brandon is involved in the McCombs Leadership Program and plans to join an undergraduate law organization. He hopes to complete his BBA in three years, then pursue a graduate degree in law at the University of Texas.

Brandon’s interests include piano, automobile design, and traveling. He has traveled to thirteen countries and hopes to continue in his professional career.

Program Manager of Leadership Development

Lauren Sanders is a third year Marketing major with a minor in Finance. She was a TYF participant in the Spring of 2013, served as a peer mentor for the past two semesters, and couldn’t be more excited to begin her new role this year as Program Manager of Leadership Development.

In the summer of 2013, Lauren held an internship with Sterling Associates –a management-consulting firm in Houston, Texas. She participated in a rotational program to various non-profit organizations within the Houston area, focusing heavily on fundraising, strategy, and internal development. This experience solidified both her passion for business as well as her strong affinity towards philanthropic missions.

This past summer, Lauren studied International Marketing abroad in Paris, France through one of McCombs’s BBA Short-Term Study Abroad programs. It was the opportunity of a lifetime and she enjoyed expanding her marketing knowledge through a unique cultural lens.

Lauren was born and raised in Houston, Texas. In addition to Target Your Future, Lauren serves as a philanthropy chair for her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, where she helped raise over $25,000 towards Breast Cancer Education and Awareness in the spring of 2014. Her passions include gluten-free baking, fitness, fashion, and European travel.


Ryan Kimmell

Professional Mentor Program (PMP) Coordinator

Ryan Kimmell is a second year Supply Chain Management major from San Antonio, Texas.  Ryan began with Target Your Future as a participant in Fall 2013 and looks forward to his first semester working with the leadership team, on which he will be serving as Professional Mentor Program (PMP) Coordinator.

Ryan has a diverse background, which includes multiple summers waiting tables as well as substantial experience selling fireworks at various roadside locations.  His most recent role was interning for Hanson’s Installations, Inc., a subcontractor, for which he worked in the estimation department.  He enjoys the customer service aspect of sales as well as the camaraderie of working with his peers to problem-solve.

While at the University of Texas, Ryan has been involved with the McCombs Leadership Program, the University Securities Investment Team, and the Investment Banking Industries Group.  Additionally, he has taken part in one case competition and looks forward to many more before graduation.  Upon receiving his degree, he plans on working in logistics and procurement before attending graduate school.

Ryan’s interests include sports, anything involving the outdoors, and watching the Longhorns dominate the Big XII.

Kevwe Mowarin is a third year Finance major. She is currently the Student Assistant for McCombs Alumni Relations. Kevwe started in TYF in Spring 2013 during her second semester in McCombs. This will be her third semester as a Peer Mentor. Kevwe is the Managing Director of Investments for the University Finance Association and a member of the Texas Darlins.

Kevwe has gained a lot of experience networking with alumni through her job with Alumni Relations. She has also served as team lead on multiple case competitions hosted by McCombs and partnering companies. She hopes that through competing in the case competitions and networking with other professionals she will develop skills that will prove invaluable as she continues with investment banking. 

Kevwe has many goals for her future career. This summer, she will be interning for a second time at Credit Suisse in their Investment Banking Division in New York City. Kevwe also hopes that the internship will further fuel the passion she already has for banking and investments.  

Kevwe was born in London and briefly lived in Nigeria, but she spent most of her life growing up in Allen, Texas. She is looking forward to studying abroad at the Bocconi University in Milan, Italy this spring. Kevwe is passionate about African culture, travelling, and art.

Morgan is a fourth year Supply Chain Management major, with a minor in Management Information Systems. Morgan participated in Target Your Future in the spring semester of her sophomore year, and she returned as a mentor in Fall 2014. Last spring, Morgan studied at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland and had the incredible opportunity to travel through Europe and make friends from all over the world.

Last summer, Morgan interned at the Boeing Company in Manufacturing Operations in Seattle, Washington. She is excited to pursue full-time opportunities and find a job that matches the technical skills she learned interning, and the communication skills she has gained through leadership experience.

Aside from TYF, Morgan is involved in the McCombs Leadership Program, Supply Chain Management Student Organization, and Gamma Beta Phi. She was raised in Milwaukee, WI, so these organizations have all helped Morgan become more involved and meet other students on campus. When these organizations leave her with free time, Morgan likes to Irish Dance, ski, and plan her upcoming trip to Australia.

Pooja Raman is a third year from Round Rock, TX and is majoring in Finance, minoring in Management Information Systems, and receiving a Sports Communication certificate. Pooja became involved with Target Your Future starting in spring 2013 and has held roles of TYF Connect Coordinator, TYF PMP Coordinator/Public Relations, and currently, mentor.

Pooja is very experienced in the professional world, having five different jobs within the past seven years. Most recently, Pooja interned with Liberty Mutual Insurance as a Human Resources Technology & Systems intern in their Boston, Massachusetts home office. She was very lucky to combine her love for technology and people during her internship. She currently works at the Renaissance Austin Hotel as a Front Desk Ambassador and has received many accolades including Ambassador of the Quarter during the first quarter of 2014. Her love for making people happy gets fulfilled everyday, as she goes above and beyond for the guests.

Pooja is also heavily involved on campus, as she is a Social Dance teaching assistant, a McCombs Leadership Program mentor, and a campus representative on Victoria’s Secret PINK University of Texas street team. She loves getting to make a difference in her campus, as she is a firm believer in what starts at the University, changes the world.

Pooja’s passions include dancing, football (go Giants!), pop culture, and chocolate. She hopes to find a profession that will incorporate all four of her passions…hopefully, it’s somewhere out there.

Amrita Chopra is a senior pursuing her undergraduate degree in Accounting and Economics with a minor in Management Information Systems. She is originally from India and moved to the U.S. in 2009. Amrita studied at community colleges for two years before she was admitted to UT in the Fall of 2012. Amrita was a participant of the Target Your Future Program in Fall of 2013.

Currently, Amrita is interning at a local CPA firm in Austin, Texas. She has been with the firm for the past six months. Last summer she worked for a CPA and a wholesale cookie business back in Colorado. She is interested in the operations of small businesses and the stories behind their successes. She aspires to be an entrepreneur in the future. At present, her five-year plan is to graduate and work for a public accounting firm as a consultant in the Risk Department.

Amrita enjoys snow and loves to snowboard. She also enjoys many different art forms, some of which are dance, music and sketching.

Jon Philip Trujillo is a third year Marketing Major from Natalia, Texas. As the Marketing Intern for the Texas Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA) program, he promotes different campaigns and events to our online community. Jon serves as a Teaching Assistant for the University’s Social Dance courses and a mentor for the McCombs Leadership Program, the FIG program, and Target Your Future.

Jon has gained a variety of experience in healthcare, higher education, and retail through working at the Baptist Medical Center, serving as an Orientation Advisor and a Student Associate at the Office of the Registrar, and working with Wal-Mart. At Wal-Mart, Jon focused on mastering the daily operations of a local store, becoming proficient in human resources, and engaging in facility projects in cross functional areas.

Jon’s goals include working for a Marketing firm in New York City during the summer of 2015 and bringing new ideas to Texas BBA. He stays open to new opportunities and is looking forward to studying abroad in Madrid, Spain in the Spring semester.

Jonathan Balderas is a third year Management Information Systems major. He works for UTeach Outreach as a Coach/Tutor, which involves teaching elementary students a STEM based curriculum, and mentoring them on the importance of a higher education.   

Jonathan joined Target Your Future in the fall of 2013, after internally transferring from Undergraduate Studies. As a first time peer mentor, Jonathan is excited to start the program, and knows his mentees will help make Fall 2014 a great semester. 

During the summer, Jonathan worked in Houston, TX with PricewaterhouseCoopers, as an Internal Firm Service Intern -an internship he learned about from his semester with TYF.  His projects, as an intern, included research on possible non-profit partners for the firm, and improving the energy website for better user experience. Jonathan is happy to announce that he will be returning to PricewaterhouseCoopers in summer 2015 to work in the Technology Advising practice.  He can’t wait to go back and see if consulting is the right fit for him.

Jonathan was born in Houston, TX and raised in Edinburg, TX. He loves to be outside and explore nature along with cooking, and exercising.

Annie Bernica is a second year Business Honors major pursuing a degree in either Accounting or Finance here at McCombs. She was a TYF participant in the spring of 2014 and now serves as an Ambassador for the program, assisting with the mentoring of the current TYF participants.

In her spring of 2014, Annie was a part-time intern for a start-up company, Chow Now, that provides technology services to restaurants. She acted as a sales and marketing representative and also gathered and analyzed data to increase sales in the Austin-area market specifically. She also took on an unpaid internship for the Nikki Mitchell Foundation, raising awareness and money for Pancreatic Cancer Research with a large benefit concert in Austin, Texas. With the Nikki Mitchell Foundation, Annie gained sponsors and promoted the event through campaigns over the radio and in newspapers.

In addition to her work experience, Annie has involved herself with many extracurricular on campus. She is a member of both Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Phi Chi Theta, a professional business fraternity. She serves on the Risk Management Council for her sorority and is the External Relations Chairman for her business fraternity.

Above all, Annie is a lover of learning. She has participated in multiple case competitions on campus to gain business experience in as many different industries as she can. She has found a particular interest in her cases involving the Energy Industry. Her being born and raised in Houston, Texas should not surprise you then! Annie’s hobbies include photography, cooking, hiking, and creating travel itineraries.

Ashley Zaroff is a sophomore accounting major here at McCombs, and she was a TYF participant in the spring of 2014. The invaluable skills she gained through the program greatly impacted her first year as a McCombs student. Her passion for mentoring made her embrace the opportunity to come back to TYF and serve under the new Ambassador position. Ashley is thrilled to continue being a part of such a unique and beneficial program.

Ashley studied abroad this past summer through the BBA Short-term program of Business Law in Edinburgh. As it was her first time traveling to Europe, this amazing experience greatly expanded her cultural knowledge, and showed her how much McCombs has to offer.

Ashley is a native to Austin, Texas and cannot imagine going to school anywhere else. She is looking forward to her future years at The University of Texas, and is excited to see the opportunities that McCombs provides her with. Her interests include Texas football, traveling, and reading.
Christina Wiener

Christina Wiener is a second year Supply Chain Management major here at McCombs. She was an active member of TYF in the Fall of 2013 and is incredibly excited to come back this semester as an Ambassador.

This past summer Christina worked full time in the Provost’s Office under the Vice-Provost for Institutional Accreditation. Between workweeks, she explored Austin and discovered a growing passion for hole-in-the-wall restaurants and cafes.

Christina was born in Chicago, Illinois but was raised in the great city of San Antonio. In addition to TYF, Christina works in the BBA Career Services Office and is a teaching assistant for three Tae Kwon Do classes. Her passions include helping her brother plan his wedding, eating expensive cheese, and sleeping.

Christy Kim is a second year Accounting major from Houston, Texas. She was a mentee in TYF during the Spring 2014 semester. This fall, she is returning to serve as an Ambassador.

In the summer of 2013, Christy served as an Event Coordinator for the Burgos International Music Competition in Spain. Not only did she participate in the festival, she managed the itinerary, budget, and transportation of the other participants for the duration of the program. Currently, Christy is a Peer Coach in the BBA Career Services Office and also has tutoring experience from her past job at Kumon Learning Center.

Christy plans to study abroad this upcoming summer at the London School of Economics through a BBA Short-Term International Program. She also hopes to pursue her Master’s in Public Accounting through the integrated program offered at McCombs.

Christy’s other interests include running, learning new languages, music, and traveling.

Jackie Vo

Jackie is a second-year Finance major with a Marketing minor from Sugar Land, Texas. She participated in TYF as a mentee in Spring 2014, and is returning this semester as an ambassador to the program.

Currently, Jackie works as a marketing intern with UT Athletics. She aids in the execution of game day promotions and sponsorship implementation at home games and spirit rallies for 20 Varsity sports. Alongside this internship, Jackie works in UT Athletics in the Olympic Sports & Compliance office as student assistant.

Outside of TYF, Jackie is actively involved in her spirit and service group, Texas Lonestars, where she serves as the Fundraising Head on the philanthropy committee for Project Princess. Last year, she alone raised $1.5K in material and monetary donations through gaining the support of local Austin businesses. The position has taught her a great deal about corporate sponsorships and community outreach, and she enjoys gathering support for the philanthropy while giving back through her work.

Jackie's favorite pastime is attending concerts. In the past year she has been to 3 festivals and 10 different shows. Her other interests include tennis, eating new foods, and exploring Austin.

Tanner Brennan is a second-year McCombs student participating in his first year within the integrated Master in Professional Accounting program. He was a Target Your Future participant in the Spring of 2014, and is now continuing his involvement in the program as a TYF ambassador.

This summer, Tanner is participating in an internship with Phillips 66 within their accounting and finance department. He looks forward to gaining valuable skills and sharing this experience with other Target Your Future participants.

Tanner was born in Duncanville, Texas and grew up in Southlake, Texas. His interests and hobbies include playing multiple musical instruments, sports, and reading.

Teagan White is a second semester sophomore from The Woodlands, Texas. She recently declared her major in Marketing and is also pursuing a minor in French. She was a mentee in TYF Spring of 2014. This fall, she is serving as the Connect Coordinator.

Teagan’s business background comes from a variety of experiences. She was on the Finance Board of the Fall 2013 – Spring 2014 Texas THON organization and succeeded in raising over $50,000 for Dell Children’s Medical Center. She also serves as the Treasurer of Texas Lonestars, a service organization at UT. Currently, she is working in the Special Events office at the UT School of Law. Teagan also has experience in food service and retail and is looking forward to where these activities will lead her.

Teagan hopes to put her French skills to use in Paris, France with the International Marketing Program through the BBA International Study Abroad Program. Her goal is to become fluent to be able to travel and do marketing in France. Teagan is involved in the McCombs Diversity Council and the University Marketing Association. Upon graduating, Teagan is considering continuing her education and receiving an MBA.

Teagan has many hobbies outside of class including Scottish dancing, skiing, UT football games, and clarinet. She is very excited for recruiting this year for an internship and is already looking forward to continuing her hobbies throughout her professional career.

Amanda Tallent is a sophomore Marketing major from Baytown, Texas. Amanda was previously a mentee in the Target Your Future Program in Spring 2014 and is returning to the Leadership Team as Historian for the Fall 2014 - Spring 2015 school year.

Amanda’s leadership experience can be demonstrated by her roles as a Peer Coach for BBA Career Services, a Youth Intern for two local churches, and a Summer Camp Counselor for New Arrival Students. Amanda’s passion for serving the community and volunteering with youth led her to participate in UT Best Buddies and over six mission trips since 2009.

Amanda plans to study abroad Summer 2015 in Paris through the BBA International Marketing Program. Amanda is also a member on the Merchandise Committee for Texas Royals and is actively involved in the Christians in Business Organization.

In her free time, Amanda loves to craft, travel, and explore new places with her dog, Ellie.

Andrea Tapia
