As much or as little time, you set the pace.

Three Prospects

Started in Spring of 2007, the Business Partners Mentorship Program helps freshman and sophomore students with their transition to college life and the McCombs School of Business. Some students have a more challenging time adjusting to academics, work/life balance, and campus life in general, and Business Partners aims to close that gap by creating one-on-one partnerships with those students who could benefit from a mentor relationship.

How does it work?

Junior Partners are freshman and sophomore students in the McCombs School of Business who wish to be paired up with an upperclassman for a one-on-one mentorship. A Junior Partner can get better acquainted with campus life and learn more about all the resources that McCombs and the university has to offer from their Senior Partner.

Senior Partners are juniors and seniors that are interested in helping freshman and sophomore students with their transition to both college life and the McCombs School of Business. They are involved in various campus activities and organizations which helps in connecting Junior Partners with campus resources. They provide the Junior Partner with a unique one-on-one experience without added pressures. The partnership is not forced; instead, the Senior Partner serves as a mentor for the Junior Partner and they jointly decide the details of their partnership.

What do I do with my Senior Partner?
Relationships are not forced, and instead are a unique one-on-one experience.  In the past, activities include short meetings such as coffee breaks, lunch, or attending campus events together.  The Senior Partner serves as a mentor for the Junior Partner and they jointly decide the details of their partnership.

Do I need a mentor?
You may not feel that you need a mentor, but this is a great way to meet upperclassmen and ask questions that you might otherwise not ask your professors or peers.  In addition, your mentor can provide you with resources and opportunities that you may not know about.  Senior partners have a wide range of backgrounds that consist of various majors, first generation students, working students, students from border cities, students from small high schools, and students who know what it’s like to struggle academically.  These perspectives from a Senior Partner can provide you with added insight and a friend who understands what you are going through.
