Graduate Assistantship for Leadership Programming
McCombs School of Business - Leadership Program
This position has been filled for academic year 2012-2013
The Undergraduate Program Office is seeking two graduate assistants to begin August and/or June of 2012, ending approximately May 2013. The position has a potential to become a two-year assistantship. Preference will be given to masters-level students in the Educational Administration Program at UT.
The Leadership Program complements the core purpose and values of The University of Texas at Austin through directed experiences that facilitate leadership, awareness and action on an individual, local and global level. The program is a four or three year experience in which business students will attend major events coordinated by the McCombs School of Business and participate in leadership development activities (classes, organizations, conferences/retreats, community service, book reviews, etc). During their final year in the program, students will complete a leadership course or leadership research paper and have the opportunity to participate in a business service learning trip in Latin America.
Additional professional development opportunities, depending on areas of interest and needs of the office, may include: special events, first-year interest groups, alumni programs etc. but the primary function will be to coordinate the Leadership Program. Our goal is to give the person in this position a well-rounded experience.
Graduate Assistant Job Description
Required Qualifications:
- Must be enrolled as a graduate student (taking at least nine hours).
- Must be extremely detail oriented, able to deal with ambiguity, and take initiative.
- Have a desire to work with students.
Main Functions of the Leadership Program GA
- Coordinate and aid in design of large programs (speakers, vendors, travel, attendance, contracts, logistics, reservations etc).
- Manage the web-based application and activity tracking process.
- Maintain blog, website, and electronic content for the program.
- Review and give feedback on reflections from students on their leadership activities.
- Recruitment and publicity of the program.
- Mentor and be the primary contact for first year class.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
- Experience with leadership development.
- Desire to coordinate leadership programs.
- Experience with PC hardware/software or the ability to learn applications quickly.
- Apply concepts of student development in program planning, counseling, and administrative duties.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
Preferred Affiliation:
Preference is given to students in Master's and Doctorate programs in the Department of Educational Administration in the College of Education.
Terms of Employment
- Employment Period: Fall 2012 through Spring 2013. Summer start is preferable for a 20-40 hour position.
- Hours: 20 hours per week during Fall and Spring, standard work hours 8 AM – 5 PM, some weekend and evening hours may be required. (Weekly hours flexible dependent on work load)
- Monthly gross salary: $1,000 plus benefits (pending budget approval).
