Greetings from the 2013-2014 UBC President:
Dear UBC Alumni,
Wherever you may be, I hope this message finds you well! Here in Austin, we are off to a running start. I want to thank you for your continued involvement and support of the Undergraduate Business Council.
My name is Jordan Costen and I serve as this year’s President of UBC. The theme for Business Council this year is “Carpe McCombs.” No, we are not seizing McCombs, but rather taking our programs, members, and organization as a whole to new heights. We have placed an emphasis on strengthening relationships between organizations and being involved in McCombs, as well as bringing University-level issues and opportunities to our members. We are also working with the deans to provide input on facility changes that will affect undergraduates, such as the new MBA building and the upcoming closure of the Millennium Lab. Even the Frito is due for a face-lift! Between tuition, facility changes, and curriculum review, UBC continues to be a presence that faculty and staff look to for input and innovation.
On the program front, we are working to uphold the high standard of events that you all helped set for us. The VIP docket this year has speakers such as the CEO of Foot Locker, CEO of eBay, CEO of GSD&M, as well as the CEO of Legendary Pictures. Two weekends ago we had 16 teams sign-up to compete in our Fall Case Competition, and we have already taken a trip to Dallas to visit consulting companies. Our alumni have been present at these events, from judging cases to welcoming us in Dallas. In the Spring, we will revamp Business Week and kick off the school year with a fair to showcase all of the McCombs organizations. As usual, we will have another line-up of VIPs, a CFT, McCombs Executive Summit, as well as our two-week student giving campaign, BBA Legacy.
No matter what we do or where we go, it is the internal culture of this organization that grows its past and present members. We started the year with everyone’s favorite events: from KKC and formal orientation (for those of you wondering, yes, the Chinese Dragon still exists) to Informal Retreat and Traditions skits. Events like these are part of the process that cultivates such an incredible culture in this organization. I am making sure that on top of everything we do in McCombs, we never forget to invest in the 100 people around us during our time on Council.
I hope that reading this triggered some of your favorite memories while on Council! I am always open to any suggestions or questions, or even just to chat. Please feel free to reach me at (214) 632-4636 or at email@example.com. Leading this organization has been an incredible experience; I look forward to the exciting year ahead. The incredible support that our alumni offer continues to have an impact on our members. You are always welcome at our events and I hope to see you back on campus in the near future!
