Honors Business Association (HBA)
The Honors Business Association (HBA) at The University of Texas at Austin serves as the official student organization for the Business Honors Program. Since its inception in 1980, HBA has provided academic, professional, social, and philanthropic opportunities for its members. HBA strives to build up the strong sense of community within the Business Honors Program and to enhance the college experience for all BHP students. For three decades, the Honors Business Association has maintained a mix of professionalism, volunteerism, and fun. Above all else, HBA is, and always will be, a home for BHP students. With the support of the Business Honors Program faculty and staff, corporate sponsors, and a strong alumni base, HBA strives to make the BHP student experience better. Whether you’re a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or alum – HBA will always have a warm fireplace (or so we wish) and sandwich (or whatever delicious food is being served at our meeting) ready. Best of all – HBA is available to all BHP students free of dues. So drop on by, bring a friend, and experience something new, exciting, and happy.
BHP Freshmen Leadership Kick-off
Your experience with BHP starts the first weekend of school with Freshmen Leadership Kickoff. This is the official induction into the BHP. The weekend retreat is designed to help you build teamwork skills with fun activities, and allows incoming freshmen to get to know their BHP classmates, faculty and staff outside the classroom. You will also meet the officers of the Honors Business Association (HBA) as well as your peer mentor who will be with you throughout your freshman year. It is a program put on for the students by the students to ensure you begin creating bonds that will last all throughout your college career and beyond.
Freshman Mentor Program
The BHP Freshman Mentor Program is a peer mentorship program designed to assist first year students with the transition to college life. All BHP freshmen are assigned to a mentor group.
The program was created in the spirit of building community among the first year BHP students and the sophomore, junior and senior cohorts. Peer mentors are chosen and trained to assist their freshmen peers in acclimating to the campus setting. Mentors meet with their mentor groups several times each semester to offer strategies for academic and social success. Mentors interact with freshmen through the BA 101H course and in outside activities.
Alumni Mentor Program
The BHP Alumni Mentor Network is a program that connects alumni to BHP sophomores and juniors. It is an opportunity for current students to be mentored by alumni based on similar academic and/or professional interests. BHP alumni come from a variety of professional fields and many go on to top medical schools, law schools, MBA programs, and other graduate programs.
Alumni mentors may provide advice to students on major and career exploration, career and/or graduate school preparation, professional development and balancing school, career and outside interest.
The Business Honors Program hosts an annual Community BBQ at the start of each fall semester. This is a great opportunity to catch up with your fellow classmates as the new school year begins. Besides mingling with fellow students, numerous company representatives come out to this event as well. Past sponsors have included Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Dell, BP, ConocoPhillips, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Walmart, Target, and more. Community BBQ is free for all BHP students and transportation is provided.
Make-a-Mark reconnects BHP seniors with their graduating class. There are several Make-A-Mark events throughout the year is about raising money for a good cause, but it's also about BHP seniors reconnecting with fellow classmates . We host a series of events (most free) so that seniors can bond before leaving the University.
Every year, the graduating BHP class sponsors the Make-A-Mark Scholarship Campaign. The BHP Make-A-Mark Campaign raises funds in support of an endowed scholarship for future BHP students. The Make-A-Mark Scholarship has proven to be a successful recruiting tool for the top high school students in the nation. Your gift is an investment in your degree and goes on to strengthen the BHP as one of the nation’s top programs.
