Business Foundations | Summer Institute

Coursework

Due to the scheduling of the Institute, students enrolled in the summer program MUST take ALL five courses listed above. The classes are integrated, and admission to the program requires attendance in all of the courses.

Industry & Commerce Track

  • Foundations of Accounting
  • Global Entrepreneurship 
  • Foundations of Management
  • Foundations of Marketing
  • Foundations of Finance
  • Guest lectures will highlight additional topics including: global economy, ethics, technology commercialization, and business law

Business of Healthcare Track

  • Foundations of Accounting
  • Social Entrepreneurship
  • Foundations of Management
  • Marketing in the Healthcare Environment
  • Foundations of Finance
  • Guest lectures will highlight additional topics including: healthcare organizations, medical ethics, medical technology patents, health informatics, and law

In addition to completing the certificate program in a single summer session, Institute participants also benefit from a number of other learning opportunities not offered during the normal school year. These include:

  • Class size limited to 55 students
  • Students learn about the impact of ethical decision-making, team-building, dynamic markets, and product development through business and stock market simulations.
  • Professional development opportunities, including: — Creating compelling resumes and cover letters — Making effective presentations — Polishing interviewing skills in Mock Interviews — Developing successful dining manners through an Etiquette Luncheon
