MSTC Involvement Opportunities
MSTC Career Development offers a variety of opportunities to meet your recruiting needs, whether you are interested in recruiting full-time employees, finding a part-time intern during the school year, or just getting started at the McCombs School of Business. Opportunities are available through networking nights, event/program sponsorship, etiquette dinners, career fairs, company site-visits, classroom presentations, and by participating in SXSW.
Please see below to find out more about some of the options. For any questions about pairing with the MSTC program for recruiting, please contact our Career Development Specialist, Scott Good.
Networking Nights
At MSTC Networking Nights, you'll have the opportunity to talk with current MSTC students about full-time job opportunities or part-time internships in your organization. These casual events allow you to make meaningful connections with upcoming graduates, learn more about their unique skill-set, and what they can bring to your company. Students will probably be anxious to speak with you about potential opportunities in product management, product development, consulting, research & development, mergers & acquisitions, or other areas of interest.
We are currently searching for a date and location for our next event. For information or to become a sponsor, please contact Scott Good.
Internship Opportunities
Many MSTC students welcome the opportunity to intern and work 10 to 30 hours a week, or on a project basis. In the past, companies hired students as interns for technology assessments, R&D assistance, and project management. They can also assist with business plans, production planning, and contracts. They are part of a one-year program, so they take on internships while attending class on the weekends, but they aren't eligible for traditional summer internships.
Texas MSTC students are carefully selected, bright, and they're an excellent value opportunity. Please contact the MSTC Director of Career Development, Scott Good, for more information.
Tech Trek
We are currently looking for Austin tech companies--of any size--to host MSTC students for an Austin Tech Company Crawl. A portion of our students would visit your offices to learn more about your company culture, what types of jobs they would be eligible for, and make connections with your employees. We'll be scheduling a date for our inaugural trip soon.
If you would like to learn more, please contact our MSTC Director of Career Development, Scott Good.
Speaking Opportunities
Distinguished speakers visit the MSTC class each month and speak to the class on various topics including patent protection, how to launch a venture, technology transfer, and more. If you'd like to be considered as a speaker for an upcoming MSTC class, please contact MSTC Program Manager Amanda Zimmerman.
Etiquette Dinner
Each August, we hold a dinner to teach our students proper etiquette for business dining environments, and we're always seeking sponsors. Employers can sponsor tables, send representatives to meet MSTC students, and even gain some useful etiquette knowledge. We'll announce the date for this event soon. Please continue to check back, or contact our MSTC Director of Career Development, Scott Good.
SXSW
MSTC participates in SXSW each year in order to make connections with potential employers and prospective students. We have a booth at the Interactive trade show, and we co-sponsor the McCombs SXSWi Reception at Vince Young Steakhouse. If you'd like more information about how you can get involved with us, please contact our MSTC Director of Career Development,
Scott Good.
Other Recruiting Options
Undergraduate Career Expo
The Undergraduate Career Expo (held each fall and spring) provides opportunities for employers to recruit McCombs School of Business students. The expos are open to all current McCombs School of Business students in the BBA, MPA, MSF, MBA, and MSTC programs. Though this event focuses on entry-level positions, a small percentage of MSTC students are looking for these types of roles and will be present.
The Career Expos are hosted by the Undergraduate Career Committee and BBA Career Services. For questions or more information, please contact Rachel Rucker in BBA Career Services.
Company Information Sessions
We encourage corporations to send teams of 4-5 employees to the Texas MSTC Program so that they can take advantage of the skills gained through the MSTC Program. If you are interested in arranging a meeting to discuss a possible relationship with the Texas MSTC Program, please email mstc@mccombs.utexas.edu. If possible, we can travel to your offices and present to any employees who may be interested in enrolling in the program.
