The Financial Trading and Technology Center is a laboratory for the creation of innovative teaching techniques. It uses cutting-edge, high-definition, audio-visual technology to enhance teaching, and makes distance learning easier. The classroom has 50 workstations to provide students with access to real-time data feeds from five leading providers of financial information: Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar and Argus. The classroom is equipped with the following:
Touch Screen Master Control Monitor
The Touch Screen Monitor allows the user to select the type of image source from a menu (document camera, main computer, laptop). Once an image is selected it can be seen on the projector or preview monitor. A user can also change the light settings in the room and the audio levels for presentation on the touch screen monitor.
The Document Camera is a high-definition ceiling mounted overhead projector. It expands the user options for presentation by allowing you to place anything under the camera for viewing.
Dual High Definition Projectors and Screens
There are two high-definition projectors with one main screen and an additional drop down screen that is available as needed.
The instructor computer has Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ, Morningstar and Argus installed as well as the Microsoft Office suite and internet access. A laptop port allows a user to connect their laptop for a presentation.
The Center's classroom is equipped with four high-definition cameras and voice activated microphones for video conferencing. We use a Tandberg 6000 codec that connects/transmits at 384 Kbps. We have four main delivery mechanisms of data that can be used: computer, document, camera and voice. We also have three ways of transmitting data: ISDN, H.323 and fiber.
Through the Ford Career Center, the FTTC assists undergraduate and graduate students with video conference access for job and internship interviews. With this capability we can offer an alternative to in-person interviews while allowing company representatives to save time on out-of-town traveling. This also allows them to stay in their offices and still have the personal contact with students. For more information about job and internship video conferences, please contact the Ford Career Center at 232-3770.
