MIS students gathered in the CBA Event Room Wednesday evening, Oct 17, to mix and mingle with recruiting companies. The ten companies in attendance were Accenture, Bazaarvoice, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Epsilon, GM, KPMG, PwC, Sense Corp, and Walmart. Students chatted with company representatives on a variety of topics. Students gained a broader understanding of workplace expectations, and the companies involved got to meet 70 potential interns and employees.
Lecturer Clint Tuttle kicked off the event with introductions of the attending companies and a short slide show about the importance of MIS in the workforce. He discussed the core classes required in MIS and electives used to investigate new avenues of information management. He also informed students about MIS's real-life applications, including the variety of accessible jobs in the workforce today.
The networking portion of the event began after company introductions. Each company positioned themselves at separate tables, and students split into groups of seven to eight per table. After 10 minutes the groups of students rotated to the next table, while the company representatives stayed seated. During the 10-minute session, students are encouraged to ask questions about the companies, and representatives get to promote their company in a more casual setting.
Finally, students and representatives were able to continue their conversations over dinner catered by Zen.
Thank you to MISA who supplied volunteers to help with set up and clean up - they were essential to the success of the event!
