Workshop on Social and Business Analytics
In the current information-driven era, corporations and professionals face the continuous challenge of gathering intelligence and making effective decisions using a massive volume of data. We propose a workshop on social and business analytics to establish a bridge between the industry and academia to address these challenges. The workshop will include presentations and panels of executives and academics that have experience and insight in this innovative field within a business context.
The rapid growth of the Internet has attracted entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to simplify information sharing and communication modes. During this time we witnessed a dramatic increase in email communication, online access to information, electronic commerce, online social media, and much more. The key building block for all of these innovative platforms is information that is generated and shared by users, and thus forms the core driver for better business decisions.
The massive amount of information generated by users in the social media space empowers practitioners, with the intelligence to make effective business decisions, to improve the returns from their investments. Unfortunately, the abundance and ubiquity of information have also caused an overload, resulting in new challenges for analysis and measurement. A workshop on social and business analytics would provide a platform to bring together practitioners and academics to exchange ideas and experiences for better understanding of information available, and for capturing insights for improved managerial action.
In brief, the workshop will focus on exchange and presentation of innovation and breakthroughs on various digital platforms to better understand the questions of interest to industry and the society. Additionally, this event will allow attendees (both academics and practitioners) to network and create connections for enriching the future research endeavors.
