Lovelys Powell is the director of academic advising and student success for the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He joined the Texas McCombs BBA Program office in 2004 as an academic adviser.

As the head of the area, he oversees the planning and delivery of academic support services and programs for business students. He also administers and develops strategic programming that increases student retention.

Powell has held other positions at UT Austin, including as an adviser in the College of Education, as a student affairs administrator in the Office of the Dean of Students, and as an admissions recruiter for the Office of Admissions.

He has received numerous awards and honors, including the Connie K. Saathoff Staff Excellence Award, the Jeanne H. Brown Endowed Staff Excellence Award, the James W. Vick Texas Excellence Award for Academic Advising (four times), the UT McCombs School of Business Sunny Side Up Award, and the National Academic Advising Association Outstanding Academic Advising Administrator Award (twice).

Powell graduated from UT Austin with Bachelor of Arts degrees in sociology and government. He also holds a Master of Arts in sociology from Texas State University. He is a member of the Academic Counselors Association and the Black Faculty Staff Association.
