Dr. Uttarayan "Rayan" Bagchi is a professor of Management at the McCombs School of Business, The University of Texas at Austin. His research and teaching areas of expertise include operations management, sequencing and scheduling, customer service, and management of quality and has published extensively in research journals.
Dr. Bagchi has received notable awards from The University of Texas at Austin, including the Outstanding Core Professor Award and the Outstanding Elective Professor Award from the Graduate Business Council, and the Joe D. Beasley Award for teaching excellence in the master's curriculum from the McCombs School of Business. In addition, Dr. Bagchi has taught in the International MBA program at the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, and in the doctoral program at the Mexico City Campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM).
He has made presentations on quality to groups in industry, academia, and government, including a former Governor of Texas and her office staff, the Graduate School of Industrial Administration at Carnegie Mellon University, the Division of Student Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin, and the Austin Independent School District. As a member of the American Society for Quality Control, he served on the Austin Quality Council in 1991.
Dr. Bagchi received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and Ph.D. in Business Administration from Pennsylvania State University.
