Do you want to educate, motivate, and inspire our next generation of leaders? Do you want to do all of this with a great group of colleagues? We are seeking dynamic individuals to serve as facilitators and mentors for the Subiendo Leadership Academy.
Subiendo: The Academy for Rising Leaders is a five-day intensive summer program that brings together high school seniors for an unforgettable leadership development experience. We are interested in hiring two executive team leaders and twenty-two team leaders for the 2012 academy to be held June 17th – 21st. There is a stipend for Team Leaders and Executive Team Leaders.
What is an Executive Team Leader?
The executive team leaders are the liaison between counselors and Subiendo staff. They serve as on-the-ground leadership at the Academy. They manage team leaders and participants. This is a fast-paced position, so it is important for you to be able to think on your toes, handle crises as they arise, and manage stress well.
In addition to their responsibilities during the Academy, executive team leaders are offered a paid position with Subiendo for at least five hours a week from January until the beginning of the academy. Last year’s executive team leaders were responsible for a variety of projects such as managing student travel, administering surveys, and managing student correspondence.

What is a Team Leader?
The team leader is responsible for providing the best experience possible for all participants of the program. Team leaders are assigned a group of students (9-10) to direct through all activities. The Team leader must be able to interact with and supervise students and to provide for their safety and well-being.
Requirements
- High energy, motivated team player with enthusiasm
- Experience working with high school students
- Coaching, tutoring, and/or mentoring experience highly desirable
- Knowledge of the program topic, course work and/or professional experience in a related field a must
- Available during the entire Academy with the ability to reside on campus a must
- Ability to problem solve
Responsibilities
- Calling participants once they have been accepted
- Mentoring participants for the year after Subiendo
- Supervising an assigned group of 9-10 high school seniors
- Facilitating small group meetings (lead discussions, briefings, debriefings, simulations, etc.)
- Accompany group on all outings
- Prepare students for each day’s activities
- Provide supervision
- Be knowledgeable of all program rules and regulations, as provided during trainings
- Responsible for providing the best experience possible for all program participants
- Perform other duties as determined by the program leadership
- The executive leadership team is expected to work in the office 5-10 hours a week (PAID)
Time Commitment
- You must attend all Team Leader trainings. They will be held from 12:00-2:00 on FRIDAYS
- You must attend the first Team Leader Outing on January 20th
- You must attend two (2) of the four (4) outings planned during the spring semester.
- You must attend the Counselor Workday on Saturday, June 16th
- During the week of the academy, you will be required to:
- Stay overnight on Sunday, June 16th
- Remain on campus 24/7 through Thursday at approximately 6pm; If you are taking summer classes, you will not be able to attend them for the week of the Academy
- Stay with the participants to which you are assigned at all times during the academy
- Call participants during the week prior to the academy
