About the Global Business Leadership Institute
A Day in the GBL Institute
- 8 a.m.: Breakfast with colleagues from all over the world in the cafeteria
- 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Your first class starts promptly at 9. Today’s topic: Exchange Rates and Derivative Securities. Good - you’ll need that for your team’s 6th Quarter decision for the simulation.
- 12 p.m.-1 p.m.: Time to get a quick bite to eat before your second class!
- 1:30 p.m.: It’s 1:30 and you’re in your second class talking about culture. So risk-taking and talkativeness are culturally determined – maybe that explains what’s going on with the Brazilian and Austrian on your team, and you make a note of some coping strategies.
- 6:00 p.m.: Dinner Time at Dobie, or maybe take the team out to your favorite place in Austin.
- After dinner, you lead a discussion on your simulation decision, balancing the input you’re getting, and exploring ways to bring your Thai colleague into the discussion. With everyone on the same page, you submit your decision.
- Later that night, you check back online, and it’s all there. You’ve gained market share in two segments, and your products have the highest brand rating in the simulation. Yes!!! You’re managing cultural differences, applying business principles and making friends on four continents.
....And now it’s time to learn that dance the Brazilians promised to teach you…
