MSIROM: Business Analytics Involvement

Business analytics is the science of translating vast amounts of complex data into clear, manageable information in order to make sound decisions. The department of Information, Risk, and Operations Management (IROM) has developed the MSIROM program with a focus on Business Analytics to fulfill a significant market need for individuals with deep analytical talent for dealing with the complexities and possibilities of “Big Data” in the business and organizational context. The program focuses on students with exceptional quantitative, technical, and communication skills and combines classroom experiences in statistics, data mining, and programming with functional applications such as marketing, social media, and supply chain analytics.

In particular, this is a great opportunity for employers to recruit MSIROM: Business Analytics, BBA, MPA, and MSF students. The spring 2014 Undergraduate Career Expo will be held in January. Etiquette Dinner

The Etiquette Dinner provides networking practice for the incoming class of MSIROM: Business Analytics students with a networking session in addition to learning the do’s and don'ts of business dining etiquette. Employers are seated with students to share stories and give advice on business networking. Sponsors will have the opportunity to give a brief introduction to the entire group regarding their company and opportunities for MSIROM: Business Analytics students. Sponsors are encouraged to send up to three representatives.

The 2013 Etiquette Dinner was held on September 18 (6:00 - 8:30 p.m.). Employers interested in sponsoring future Etiquette Dinners, please contact Candice Lewis

Industry Council

We have also partnered with other industry leaders to enhance the overall program offering and to allow interaction between the students, faculty, and business professionals. The Industry Council members primarily focus on recruiting students from the program, but also enrich student education through providing secure data, business problems, and coursework examples. The Industry Council is currently made up of: Adometry, Cameron, CMG Consulting, GM, Nieman Marcus, Phillips66, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and SAP.

Taking part in this council allows companies to participate in events with the Texas Business Analytics students, contribute to project work, and to participate in the program in various other exciting ways.

If you are interested in learning more about these councils or how to take part, please contact Candice Lewis.

Industry Panels & Workshops

Industry Panel Sessions

Every Friday, we offer company representatives the ability to interact with the current and incoming MSIROM: Business Analytics class as part of a series to help contextualize analytics into various industries. Companies are encouraged to send representatives from their firms to talk candidly about their experiences with big data and how that has been used to shape strategy and solve problems within their particular industries.

Other Workshop Opportunities

Interviewing, business etiquette, resume writing, cover letters and company research are among the topics Texas Business Analytics career consultants address at career workshops held throughout the year.  As a co-presenter, you will add value by offering the employer's perspective.

If you are interested in participating in a career workshop or industry panel, contact Candice Lewis..

Pre-Matriculation Internships

We encourage our students to take part in an analytics internship before joining the program and want to work with our corporate partners to give access to these talented students before they join the program. These internships will need to take place between the spring graduation date and the beginning of the masters program at the start of July.
