Real Estate Finance and Investment Center

A unique formula of academic excellence, real-world experience and industry connections has led the Real Estate Program at the McCombs School of Business to become a well-known, highly ranked program for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Real Estate Finance and Investment Center (REFIC) at McCombs is the leading force in this development. It is the first research center at a leading university to specialize in the intersection of real estate and finance. Housed in the Department of Finance, the center takes advantage of its outstanding faculty to cultivate cutting-edge research on finance-related real estate issues.

Leveraging the current resources at The University of Texas at Austin, we are in an exceptional position to create a top-notch, distinctive Real Estate Program. Key initiatives include:

Undergraduate Real Estate Program

This program will provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to have an officially recognized focus (i.e., a certificate) in real estate, in addition to a bachelor’s degree in their respective majors. The program will be open to students across campus to increase the interdisciplinary nature of the curriculum and draw top students from outside of McCombs. The Real Estate Certificate is the first step toward the creation of a degree in real estate.

REIT Fund

This student-managed fund clearly distinguishes McCombs from our competitive set. Graduate and undergraduate students work together in groups to research and analyze various REITs to build the fund’s portfolio. Students gain hands-on trading and investment experience and a taste of the collaborative skills they will need when they enter the workforce.

National Real Estate Challenge

This competition is one of the most prestigious student challenges nationwide. Additional support will allow REFIC to award the most competitive prizes, to continue to attract top talent and secure our place as the preeminent real estate case challenge.

Through these efforts, we will arm students with real-world experience and a solid interdisciplinary background in real estate. In addition, researchers are creating the intellectual capital to solve industry challenges. Your support will solidify the prestige of McCombs’ Real Estate program and ensure its place as an integral asset to the university.
