International Students
MPA International Connection
The MPA International Connection (MIC) is a program dedicated to helping prospective and incoming international MPA students with concerns related to transitioning to life at The University of Texas at Austin and navigating the job search.
Student Volunteers
MIC Volunteers are current MPA international students who have offered to answer any questions prospective and incoming students have about their experiences in the MPA Program, at The University of Texas at Austin, and in the United States in general. The relationship between volunteers and program participants is mutually beneficial as it offers opportunities to form new friendships, share resources, and create professional networking connections. All current international MPA students are invited to apply to be a volunteer.
Meet the 2012-13 MIC Volunteers
Dan Li, China
Track: Taxation
Graduation: Spring 2013
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
MIC helped me improve my soft skills and allowed me to become familiar with the recruiting process ahead of time. I appreciate what I gained from being a member, and I want to give something back by helping international MPA students who were in my shoes.
Phuong-Dung (or Zunie) Nguyen, Vietnam
Track: Financial Reporting and Assurance/Managerial Accounting and Control
Graduation: Spring 2014
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
It is challenging to be in the MPA program, especially as an international student. To me, it has been a positive challenge. There are many opportunities I would not have access to otherwise. I want to pay it forward by promoting the program and helping other students.
Hyunji Yoon, South Korea
Track: Financial Reporting and Assurance
Graduation: Spring 2013
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
When I got into the MPA program, I had just transferred to UT. I was nervous and experienced some difficulties. Now, I have completely adjusted to MPA life and want to help other international students who are having a hard time.
Meetings
Current MPA students are invited to attend scheduled meetings to discuss recruiting issues specifically related to international students. Meetings are held in the MPA Program Office, GSB 4.112C, unless otherwise stated. The meetings are usually round-table discussions; attendee participation and exchange of ideas is encouraged. Please check the MPA Weekly for meeting announcements and updates. If you are a current student and would like to receive e-mail notifications about MIC events, please contact the MPA peer career consultants and request to be added to the MIC distribution list.
If you have questions about the MIC program, please contact Michelle Polkinghorn.
