About The Program



  • tMPA and iMPA students with a minimum UT and Accounting GPA of 3.0. Please note, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  • Prerequisites: Successful completion of the following courses by summer of participation:
    • tMPA: ACC381 required; 380k.11 recommended
    • iMPA: ACC355M, ACC356M, ACC358Cm and ACC359


Program Duration: Five weeks, first summer session (June 1-July 2, 2015)
Classes take place Monday-Thursday (usually 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.). Some afternoon or Friday classes possible. Students are strongly urged to refrain from making weekend travel plans until receipt of finalized schedule. Absence from class will not be permitted.

Cultural Analysis Assignment

You will be responsible for completing a short analysis of the local culture. You will receive instructions and guidance throughout the process. Each student will receive a set of materials they can use during this assignment and in their future careers.

The assignment is designed to be a short, fun and enriching group activity. You will receive valuable feedback on your analysis, and all contributions will be compiled into the class' group observations of the culture. During the re-entry session, you will receive feedback and guidance from the assistant director. You'll learn how to leverage this project and the skills you have developed while abroad to distinguish yourself during the recruitment process. Ross Jennings, Professor, Department of Accounting. Ross Jennings received his B.A. from the University of California, Davis, his M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers and his research and teaching interests include financial accounting and capital markets.

Dr. Ross Jennings has conducted research on a wide range of topics in financial accounting including financial reporting, financial statement analysis and international business. His research has been published in leading scholarly journals in accounting, including The Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Accounting and Economics and the Review of Accounting Studies.

Professor Jennings has taught classes to students at all levels, including undergraduate students in business, master’s students in both accounting and business, doctoral students in accounting, and both financial and non-financial executives. He has recently taught classes in financial reporting and financial statement analysis to full-time students in Texas and to executives in the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia. He has developed and taught custom executive education programs for organizations as diverse as Dell, Motorola, Vought and the U.S. Navy.

Professor Jennings has received numerous teaching awards including the Texas Excellence in Teaching Award, the CBA Foundation Advisory Council Award for Teaching Innovation, and the Fawn & Vijay Mahajan Teaching Excellence Award for Executive Education. He has also been named to the University of Texas Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

Shuping Chen, Associate Professor, Department of Accounting.  Shuping received her Ph.D in Accounting from the University of Southern California. Her research interests are in corporate voluntary and mandatory disclosure practices and expectations management; the impact of ownership structure on firms’ reporting choices and earnings quality; analysts as financial intermediaries in the capital market, bank financial reporting quality.
