McCombs came in 7th in the nation in The Princeton Review’s tally of the top 25 graduate schools for entrepreneurship programs, which it publishes in partnership with Entrepreneur magazine.  At McCombs, the survey included entrepreneurship among the MSTC and MBA programs and the host of initiatives and opportunities available to students.

Walk into a McCombs classroom this  and you may notice piles of textbooks replaced by the glowing screen and sleek frame of the iPad Mini.  Students in the 2013 - 2014 M.S. Technology Commercialization Program are the first class with the option to swap their textbooks for Apple’s tiny tablet, with the textbooks electronically available through Amazon’s Kindle app. Nearly all of the 70 students opted for the iPad Mini.

Texas MSTC Teams had great successes at the 2013 Global Venture Labs Investment Competition. The 2013 competition was sponsored by Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs, an interdisciplinary education and research initiative. Team Beyonic won First Runner Up for their mobile payment platform.  Team Seismos won more than $45,000 in cash and about $100,000 in services and non-cash awards.

The past two years have seen explosive growth in the Master of Science in Technology Commercialization program. Established in 1996, the program, which teaches how to identify new technologies and bring them to market, was housed under the auspices of UT’s IC2 Institute.  In 2010, with 36 students on board, the program relocated to the McCombs School of Business. Enrollment almost doubled the following year and reached 89 for the Class of 2013.

Seismos, the 2013 MSTC Team, won the 2013 Jon Brumley Texas Venture Labs Investment Competition, and will compete in the Global Venture Labs Investment Competition in May at the ATT Center in Austin, Texas. Seismos was one of five teams that made it to the TVL finals. Seismos competed with two other MSTC Teams, Glutact and Intelligent Menu.MSTC Teams GluTact placed third and won $2,000 and Intelligent Menu placed fourth.
