Dr. Mike Pappas is a Lecturer of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His area of expertise is capital project management and his technical interests are risk management, schedule and cost estimates, contracting strategy, productivity improvement, and dispute prevention and resolution. Mike completed UT’s Graduate Portfolio Program in Dispute Resolution, is a trained mediator in the State of Texas, and has mediated and co-mediated a number of construction disputes.

Mike has more than twenty years of experience in the capital project management industry, including ten years of progressively responsible field experience managing domestic and international construction projects and facilities programs. He helps clients develop effective project management solutions in the areas of front-end development, project management processes, productivity improvement, and dispute prevention/resolution. His broad experience spans the spectrum of the capital facility project, from need identification and scope definition through operation and maintenance; as well as a variety of types of projects, including petrochemical, water and wastewater treatment, electrical utilities, airfields, heavy civil, and high-rise commercial facilities. Dr. Pappas has the proven ability to effectively communicate with and integrate information collected from all levels of an organization.

He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering, the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation, and the State Bar of Texas Construction Law Section, as well as a licensed professional engineer in the State of Missouri. He has written award-winning papers regarding construction management and dispute prevention and resolution. He has taught more than 110 professional development short courses for The McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Texas Center for Lifelong Engineering Education and other clients.
