Energy Management and Innovation Center

Effective energy management is one of the most critical challenges facing the world today. Now more than ever, new business strategies and technology solutions are needed to ensure that countries around the world have access to reliable energy at predictable prices with minimal environmental impact.

Leveraging the current resources at The University of Texas at Austin and within the state of Texas, the McCombs School of Business is uniquely situated to serve as a catalyst for energy-related research and teaching.

Through the Energy Management and Innovation Center (EMIC), the McCombs School will develop the cutting-edge knowledge needed by leaders to more effectively manage energy resources, successfully commercialize innovative technologies, and shape future policy. The center’s approach to its mission is threefold:

Strengthen the education of tomorrow’s energy leaders.

Higher education in the U.S. has not kept pace with the needs and challenges of a rapidly changing energy industry. Drawing upon expertise from across the university, our multidisciplinary approach incorporates a broad range of thought and expertise at all levels of the curriculum.

Inspire honest debate on energy management and policy.

EMIC is committed to rigorous objectivity and will provide an invaluable balance to the many other factors at play in public conversations about energy issues. A pillar of this goal is the UT Energy poll, an impartial and authoritative index of consumer perspectives on key energy issues which will inform private and public policy decision-making.

Create a professional network for effective collaboration.

The energy challenges facing the nation and the world demand the cooperative effort of individuals from industry, academia and government. The center will serve as a forum to discuss and learn about geopolitical issues impacting energy, sustainability, and other topics of the day with experts from around the university.

Through EMIC, we are collaborating with schools across campus to enable The University of Texas at Austin to become the preeminent global think tank on energy. Your support will help McCombs create the intellectual capital needed by industry leaders and policy-makers in order to construct a secure energy future.
