The Texas MBA+ Leadership Program
"Each semester the MBA+ program provides Texas MBAs with hands-on opportunities to enhance and develop their leadership skills. The core components of the program focus on professional communication, project leadership and management, and industry tools and methods. Students who I have seen take advantage of MBA+ gain an edge on the leadership experience and savvy that employers look for.”
Dr. Eric Hirst, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs

“MBA+ is an excellent opportunity for students to improve their management, teamwork, and analytical skills sets.”
James Kirtland, MBA ’13
MBA+ connects students to companies with which they want to work through short-term micro-consulting projects in the fall, spring or summer. The project client provides a current business question to be addressed, and MBA+ provides a team of four to six students to tackle the issue. MBA+ guides the team through the project management process. At the end of a four to ten-week project period, the team reports their findings and recommendations to their client.

What they say
“Overall this was a great experience and one of the highlights of my MBA experience. I was able to use many of the concepts I learned in my core classes in a real-world scenario that I wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise. I would definitely recommend that all MBAs take part in a MBA+ project!”
Morgan Simental, MBA ’12, Project Lead for Adobe
“The team's insight and recommendations will help us make tweaks so we can take our social media presence to the next level. After working with a team of Texas MBA+ students, it is easy to see why McCombs has such a stellar reputation among business schools!”

Communication and Executive Coaches
Effective leadership is directly linked to versatile communication skills. Communication coaches prepare students to make stronger, more lasting impressions—whether at corporate receptions, career fairs or alumni gatherings; when presenting a new product or service to a Fortune 1000 company; or when pitching an idea to future investors. Through one-on-one coaching, students learn to collaborate productively and communicate dynamically.
MBA+ provides access to a slate of executive coaches to work one-on-one with students on career transitioning, leadership, organizational development, talent development, interpersonal skills, strategic thinking, managing change, organizational culture, conflict resolution, work/life balance, and similar topics. These coaches are from a variety of geographic regions and represent different industry backgrounds and demographic characteristics. Executive coaching is a process of guidance and development through self-discovery that will benefit students immediately and in the years to come.
What they say
"I now have two second round interviews pending and one third round interview. Working with the two communication coaches by far has been one of the best learning experiences I've had during my MBA!"
“The executive coaches are fantastic! I really enjoyed meeting one-on-one with a coach, and she helped add to the material Career Services gives us.”
"My coach helped me implement some specific steps to alleviate my speech anxiety. It was great working with her!"
"I really appreciate the Coach-on-Call program. It has allowed me to focus on key areas I need to improve so I will be making full use of the program."
