Apply to McCombs

The fall 2012 admissions cycle has ended and we are no longer accepting applications. We will launch the fall 2013 application around September and will post updated instructions leading up to that time. If you are already thinking about your fall 2013 application, please feel free to review the following links. However, please note that essays and instructions are subject to change.

McCombs Admissions Process

Admission to the MBA Program at the McCombs School of Business is highly competitive. The Admissions Office reviews applications on an individual basis looking at both quantitative and qualitative aspects of an applicant's professional and academic background. The committee seeks to assess an individual's potential for leadership, academic success and future professional growth.

The Texas MBA admissions committee carefully considers each completed application, with particular attention to personal essays, work history, post-MBA goals, undergraduate performance, letters of recommendation, honors and achievements, and test scores. All of these components are considered holistically; no specific weight is assigned to any criterion and no formulas are used.

Applying through the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management?

The McCombs School is a 20-year member of the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management (CGSM) — a seventeen university alliance that seeks to increase the number of minorities in MBA programs and managerial positions in business.  If you are planning to apply through the Consortium, your application process will be different than the McCombs application process outlined on this page. Please visit our Diversity page to learn more about that process or visit the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management website directly for more information.

The McCombs Admissions Committee (MAC)

McCombs Admissions Committee studentsThe McCombs Admissions Committee (MAC) within the Texas MBA Program plays a vital role in providing a student perspective on the MBA admissions process. The MAC is comprised of first and second year students. As students who were recently in your shoes, MAC are a source of insight into the program for you, and a source of constant feedback for our admissions office to ensure we are addressing your needs as potential applicants and future Texas MBAs.

MAC members participate in many aspects of MBA admissions and are often your first point of contact with McCombs. As faces of the program, you may see them attending recruiting events, conducting tours of McCombs, taking prospective students for class visits or out to lunch, leading info sessions and participating in Texas MBA Fridays, and meeting with walk-in prospective students for the MBA program. In addition to these face-to-face interactions, MAC members spend hours each week answering phone calls and emails to address questions you may have or application issues you may encounter. In all of these ways, the MAC seeks to establish a personal connection with each prospective student, applicant, and future Texas MBA.
