International Students

MPA International Connection

The MPA International Connection (MIC) is a program dedicated to helping prospective and incoming international MPA students with concerns related to transitioning to life at The University of Texas at Austin and navigating the job search.

Student Volunteers

MIC Volunteers are current MPA international students who have offered to answer any questions prospective and incoming students have about their experiences in the MPA Program, at The University of Texas at Austin, and in the United States in general. The relationship between volunteers and program participants is mutually beneficial as it offers opportunities to form new friendships, share resources, and create professional networking connections.  All current international MPA students are invited to apply to be a volunteer.

Graduation:  Fall 2015
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
I would like to take this opportunity to assist and share my experience with incoming as well as current international students in the MPA program. In addition, I would also like to help promote MIC and organize events specifically for international students in MPA program.

Jang LeeJang Lee, South Korea
Track:
Financial Reporting and Assurance
Graduation: Spring 2016
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
I wanted to build a global network where international MPA students from different countries can network with each other. My goal is to assist in connecting with prospective, current, and former international MPA students worldwide so that we can leverage the advantage of being international students.

Zunie NguyenZunie Nguyen, Vietnam
Track:
Financial Reporting and Assurance/Managerial Accounting and Control
Graduation: Spring 2014
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
It is challenging to be in the MPA program, especially as an international student. To me, it has been a positive challenge. There are many opportunities I would not have access to otherwise. I want to pay it forward by promoting the program and helping other students.

Ashley Song, China
Track:
Financial Reporting and Assurance
Graduation: Spring 2015
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
When I first came into the program, I felt a little lost because of the overwhelming resources and opportunities I was exposed to. I did not know how to utilize them and what to utilize. Now I am in the program for more than a year and have been through the recruiting process, I know how to effectively and efficiently maximize the utilization of different resources that the MPA program can provide. So I want to help international MPAs, who may have the same concern as I did, succeed academically and professionally from my own experience.

Wenting Wang, China
Track:
Financial Reporting and Assurance
Graduation: Spring 2015
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
I will be glad to be a mentor for students who need my help in the process of pursuing success both academically and professionally. Being a student panelist on the International Student Orientation let me realized the importance of having a mentor who can give students guidance from his or her prospective. By being a volunteer, I expect to offer help, and share my stories.

Parry Ying, China
Track:
Financial Reporting and Assurance
Graduation: December 2013
Why did you become a MIC volunteer?
I want to share my experience in MPA and recruiting, and be here to support other international students.
