The Master in Professional Accounting program at the University of Texas at Austin continues its tradition of excellence with a national first-place ranking in the 2014 edition of the U.S. News and World Report’s survey of Best Graduate Schools. For the seventh year in a row, the program topped private universities and other highly-respected accounting programs, a tribute to the quality and dedication of our accounting faculty.
“We are honored by U.S. News and World Report's ranking of accounting at Texas,” said Professor Stephen Limberg, Faculty Director for the Texas MPA program. “This independent acknowledgement of our efforts is most gratifying. Our achievements would not be possible without the unwavering commitment of Texas students, faculty, alumni and friends. We are ever mindful that excellence is not an entitlement, but is earned. This drives our leadership efforts and recognition such as this is a privilege.”
The graduate program’s ranking comes on the heels of some exciting faculty news for the Department of Accounting. According to Department Chair Lillian Mills, “During this same month that we learned about our latest number-one U.S. News ranking for graduate accounting education, we see all ‘generations’ of our researchers sought after as thought leaders."
Our faculty continually pushes the boundaries of accounting research, but they never lose sight of the importance of educating future generations of accounting professionals. In fact, Texas MPA students have incredible opportunities to interact with professors outside of class. This past year alone, the department hosted over 40 faculty lunches with a small groups of students to discuss specific accounting topics in a casual setting. Faculty members like Terri Holbrook give their time to advise students competing in accounting competitions like this year's Deloitte FanTAXtic Case Competition winners. MPA students have more interaction with faculty than any other department at the University of Texas at Austin. Accounting faculty and staff are some of the most dedicated people. They are focused on helping students succeed and reach their educational goals. This mindset helps the Texas MPA stand out from other graduate accounting programs.
