International Accounting Program in Paris

The MPA Program Office and the UT Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), jointly instituted this five-week program in Paris, in which UT students take two graduate business courses that satisfy their MPA degree requirements. One course, taught by UT faculty, focuses on international accounting policy and principles. The other, taught by ESCP-EAP faculty, emphasizes reconciling financial statements prepared in accordance with European accounting standards with U.S. GAAP. Students take field trips to European corporations, and hear special presentations by international accounting experts. Classes are conducted in English.

International Accounting Program in Hong Kong

Students satisfy MPA degree requirements by taking two graduate business courses at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in the Texas MPA five-week study abroad program in Hong Kong. In this program, jointly sponsored by the MPA Program Office and the UT Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), UT faculty members teach one course focusing on international accounting policy and principles, and CUHK faculty members teach the other course, which specifically covers accounting and business practices in China. Several company visits complement the material covered in class. The program also includes a one-week stay in mainland China. Classes are conducted in English.

International Accounting Program in Prague

The faculty of Business Administration at The University of Economics in Prague, Czech Republic, partners with the MPA Program Office and the UT Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) to offer an intensive summer study abroad program designed specifically for Texas MPA students. Participants in the program take two courses (6 credit hours total), one on International Accounting Policies and Procedures taught by McCombs professors, and a second course taught by University of Economics faculty members. Courses are taught in English on the University of Economics campus. A beautiful and exciting city, Prague has been an economic center for more than 1100 years.

Business Language Courses in the College of Liberal Arts

A variety of Business Language courses are offered in the College of Liberal Arts. Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish have been offered in previous years. Students should consult the Course Schedule for additional options.

Eligible students: All

  • Proficiency level: Intermediate – Advanced
  • Dates: Fall & Spring semester
  • Location: UT Austin campus

Interested students who are not sure if their language proficiency is sufficient should contact the department offering the course.

IB 395 - Business in Latin America

Highlights:

  • Graduate-level business course taught in Spanish
  • Generally designed for non-native speakers of Spanish who are still learning the language
  • Native speakers also encouraged to enroll
  • Focus on the cultural aspects of doing business in Latin America
  • Gain experience learning content in a foreign language

Eligible Students: MBA & MPA students only

  • Proficiency Level: Intermediate – Advanced
  • Schedule: Spring semester
  • Location: UT Austin campus

Interested students who are not sure if their Spanish language proficiency is sufficient should contact the Associate Director for Business Language Programs in the CIBER office for assessment.

Please see your academic advisor regarding how a business language course would fit into your degree plan. Students should follow all regular University registration procedures to enroll in these courses. Normal tuition and course fees apply.

CIBER Business Language Courses

Offered by the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), Business Language Tutoring is available in a variety of languages.

Language options are dependent upon the availability of tutors for the requested language. CIBER works to accommodate as many requests as possible each semester. Previously offered languages include: 

Catalan  German  Portuguese 
Chinese Italian Spanish 
French  Japanese English (for international students 

Tutoring sessions are tailored to the student's level of proficiency:

 Beginning basic language 
 Intermediate business terminology 
 Advanced business situations 
  • Eligible Students: MBA & MPA students only
  • Proficiency Level:  All levels
  • Schedule: 12 weeks, 90 minute sessions
