The Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at McCombs is pleased to offer foreign language learning opportunities in cooperation with OpenLanguage.com. The site offers online instructional materials, podcast lessons, mobile apps, and synced flashcards to help you learn English (for non-native speakers), Arabic, French, German, Russian, or Spanish.
McCombs students, faculty, and staff receive a discounted annual subscription of $50 per language--the normal price is $240 per language). CIBER offers a dedicated staff member to keep up with users’ progress, feedback, and experience. To receive this promotional price, students must enroll before the last day of September. To enroll, directly follow the instructions below.

SYLFF Doctoral Fellowship
The objective of these awards is to support doctoral dissertation research on topics combining international and business perspectives. The fellowships are provided through an endowment from the Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (SYLFF) of the Tokyo Foundation. They will be made only to doctoral students:
- who are currently enrolled in a graduate program at The University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin)
- who have been admitted to candidacy, and
- whose approved dissertation research addresses, wholly or in significant part, the objective described above.
Complete the SYLFF Doctoral Fellowship Application Form and ask your graduate adviser to submit nominations to CIBER in the McCombs School. Applications will be reviewed by the UT-Austin SYLFF Steering Committee, with input from McCombs School Doctoral Advisory Committee.
Applicants must be currently enrolled at UT-Austin and admitted to candidacy. Awards are based on major accomplishments since entering Graduate School, a well-defined program of research that combines international and business perspectives, a strong personal statement, and a letter of recommendation from the applicant’s doctoral advisor.
Application Deadline: Extended to February 20, for the following academic year
Stipend: $10,000 Generally, four such awards are available annually.

Doctoral Internationalization Consortium
The UT CIBER is proud to participate in the CIBER Doctoral Internationalization Consortium, which comprises the CIBERs at
The purpose of these consortia is to provide doctoral students in all functional areas of business an international perspective regarding the major issues and research questions that are related to their disciplines. The consortia bring doctoral students together with prominent faculty whose traditional areas of research have not been international in scope, but who have recently internationalized their work. Students attend talks conducted by faculty members as well as participate in group discussion sessions in which international research agendas are developed.
Participating CIBERs host consortia focusing on core academic subjects, inviting doctoral students from partner institutions and elsewhere to explore international themes in their discipline, and underwriting the cost of lodging and meals for attendees.
The UT Austin CIBER hosts a biennial Doctoral Internationalization Consortium in Marketing. The fall, 2009 event brought 25 doctoral students together with prominent international faculty to discuss international topics related to marketing. Participants delivered a research agenda to address the questions formulated during these discussions. UT will host another consortium in 2011. PhD students should monitor the CIBERWeb Portal for meetings.
