The program takes less than a calendar year to complete. All students begin with a cohort in the summer session and finish the following spring semester.

Classes are taught in the daytime on Monday through Friday.  We do not currently offer an evening or weekend option and students should expect to be in class full-time.

We do not currently offer classes online and students must plan to attend classes at the UT Austin campus.

Current tuition rates are $43,000 in-state and $48,000 out-of-state.

While the faculty assignments may change from semester to semester, all courses in the MSF program will be taught by our regular McCombs Business School faculty.

Not at all; in fact, the Master of Science in Finance Program is specifically designed to accommodate students with non-business backgrounds or those from business disciplines other than finance.

Certainly. You may apply and we will be happy to consider your application. However, when making the admission decision, we will consider your previous coursework and the extent to which the Master of Science in Finance is a good fit given your training and our curriculum.

No, there is no work experience requirement. A required part of the curriculum, the Practicum in Finance, is designed to provide valuable work experience to program participants.

No, but you must submit scores from either the GMAT or the GRE. The UT Austin code for submission of GRE scores is 6882. The GMAT code is 396-44-45.

Official scores must be received before the admissions deadlines. Note that it can take several weeks for the scores to arrive and be entered into the UT admissions system. Applications cannot be reviewed without official scores, so be sure to leave ample time for your scores to arrive.

No; students are required to take all courses with their program cohort in order to ensure adequate preparation for their career.

Entering students must have a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited institution. In addition, completion of a three credit hour course in statistics and a three credit hour course in economics is required. If you do not meet these requirements at the time of your application, you will be required to take them by Summer 2012, prior to beginning the program.

UT Austin does not grant credit for the CLEP Statistics exam. A score of 59-80 on the CLEP Exam in Principles of Macroeconomics will give UT Austin credit for ECO 304L. A score of 60-80 on the CLEP Exam in Principles of Microeconomics will give UT Austin credit for ECO 304K.

Prerequisites should be completed before beginning the program. Acceptance and enrollment into the MSF does not allow students to register for other UT classes so your registration will be limited to classes in the MSF curriculum.

Students are not required to complete a thesis. Instead, all program participants complete a two-hour Practicum in Finance that takes place over the fall and spring semesters. The practicum is an opportunity for students to work in teams on finance projects or research questions from outside sponsors and provides valuable hands-on, real-world experience.

We invite students from all over to apply. Your degree must meet the requirements set by the Graduate and International Admissions Center and you must submit acceptable scores on the TOEFL or IELTS. Please see the graduate admissions page for more information.

International students whose native language is not English must submit scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) unless they are eligible for a waiver. The MSF program office does not grant those waivers; instead they are granted by the University's Office of Graduate Studies. Please note that English skills are essential for success in the MSF program, both academically and professionally. As a result, the TOEFL is an important element to the application because it is a standardized, objective measurement by which applicants can demonstrate their ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Your degree must be comparable to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the United States. The Graduate and International Admissions Center will determine eligibility at the time of application.

The program expects to award merit based aid to qualified candidates. No separate application is necessary. Student loans are available for students who complete the FAFSA.
