One Year:  23 Weekends & 3 Intensive Weeks

MSTC Students Class of 2013The MSTC Program begins with May Launch Week in Austin, Texas and concludes with graduation the following May. Classes meet on alternate weekends:  Fridays from 4-8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. The blended learning environment of the MSTC Program offers students who work full-time flexibility in creating their schedule. Each term begins with an “Intensive Week.” The first term begins with May Launch Week. It includes team-building sessions and opportunities for analyzing the ventures competing in the Venture Labs Investment Competition. The second term begins with an Intensive Week in August that jump starts the fall semester. This term includes the first three classes of each of the three curriculum courses. The third term begins in January with an Intensive Week that includes an international trip. This Intensive Week will focus on technology transfer within an international context, and serves as launching pad for each of the four remaining curriculum courses.

Real Technologies

MSTC Real TechnologiesThe MSTC curriculum is about action-based learning. Students work with actual technologies and innovations rather than focusing on business case-studies and hypothetical exercises. Most assignments are completed in small teams of students who collaboratively develop market strategies and business plans for truly original technologies. The program culminates with formal presentations from the student teams on their final technology commercialization plan in front of a panel of faculty, industry leaders and venture capitalists. Several technologies have evolved into subsequent successful commercial ventures for MSTC graduates. The MSTC curriculum page has more information on what to expect from the courses.

In Class or Online

MSTC ClassParticipants may choose to attend classes in Austin or through video webcast. Online classes are available on video archives for the occasional missed class. Candidates may complete their degree without ever attending the weekend classes in Austin, but are required to attend May Launch Week and the International Trip.
