  • If your computer was manufactured after the second quarter of 2006, there is a chance that your VGA output uses new energy saving technology that our systems are not currently compatible with. Contact us immediately with your room number, and we will install a buffer to enable your computer. By Fall 2007 we hope to have all rooms compatible again.

  • You may have the resolution of your computer set too high for the digital projection equipment. Usually our equipment will compensate for resolution issues with scaling technology, but it is possible that scaling cannot solve the problem. Some laptops (Dell XPS for example) do not scale well.

UTC 3rd & 4th Floor
Try pressing "Picture Adjust" to optimize the display. If that does not do the trick, you may have selected the "True" display option and have a laptop with a high resolution screen. The projected image should indicate with arrows on the edges of the picture that the image goes beyond the limitations of the screen.

The projectors in these rooms have a 16X9 aspect ratio. They will automatically scale to find the best resolution for your screen format. Under the PC source selection button are 3 options for manual override, you may try those to see what you like best. Press "Picture Adjust" after you change the format for optimal alignment.

The projected picture is fuzzy, not sharp like on my laptop's screen

The best computer screen resolution for our projectors is 1024x768 (XVGA) at 60Hz. Instructions on how to change your computer's resolution may be found here. This is still valid, except for the 4th floor of UTC, where we natively display in either 1024x768 or 1280x768 and all of the projectors should scale. For optimal picture quality we still recommend the native resolution (1024x768).

My CD/DVD is stuck in the classroom desk's DVD player

This problem only affects rooms that were built before the Spring of 2006, and a global solution for this issue is being phased in during the 07/08 school year. However, if your CD/DVD is stuck, please pick up the red phone, report the problem and we will retrieve stuck CD’s and DVD’s. If this is an after-hours problem you may pick the CD/DVD up at our office the next day. Please send us an eMail to alert us to your problem.

Every time I use PC audio from my laptop I get a loud hum in the classroom speakers

Try unplugging your laptop's power supply and run on the battery if possible. Make sure you report the room number and problem to us, so we can alleviate this problem.

My DVD does not play in the classroom DVD player, but it played fine at home

There are many DVD formats out there, and we try to use equipment that supports most standards, but there will be problems with non store-bought DVD’s at times. If you would like us to analyze your DVD and help you resolve the issue, please drop by UTC 1.110 during our office hours.
