Multimedia Desk Interface
This is a new interface for this room, please print a copy to familiarize yourself (use "Landscape" paper orientation for best results.)

CAPABILITIES
Single-screen rear Computer Projection, Multimedia Desk/Lectern.
CONTROLS
On the top-right side of the desk there is a computer interface screen, touch the screen and it will turn on.
LAPTOP COMPUTER PROJECTION
Connect the desk's VGA cable (attached to the desk under the gold plate at the top-left of the desk) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. Turn on your computer, press the Projection On, and PC buttons on the desk's touch screen. If your laptop's screen appears on the room's screen you are ready to go, if not, you may need to mirror your laptop's screen onto the projector. To do this on a Dell computer, hit the FN and F8 keys at the same time until you see your laptop content on the screen. Hitting FN-F8 successively will scroll through the available viewing choices. The command to mirror your laptop's screen may be different on other manufacturer's computers, if you have any questions please consult this PDF chart.
CONNECTIONS
The desk has RCA Audio/Video, XLR Microphone, PC Audio/Video and Ethernet jacks, as well as one AC outlet. NOTE: Before using any application that accesses the University network through either a public Ethernet or wireless port, you must first open an internet browser application and login to the page that you are automatically directed to with your UTEID. VIDEO PLAYERS
On the left rear of the desk is a DVD/CD player and a VCR. The controls for these units are available on the desk's touch screen.
Desk/Lectern Capabilities
Convert From Desk to Lectern
On the touch screen push Lectern up until desired height is reached.
Convert From Lectern to Desk
On the touch screen push Lectern down until the desired level is reached.

Laptop Video Cable Connection

To connect your laptop computer for video projection, simply plug in the desk's VGA cable (supplied under the gold plate on top of the desk) to the VGA port of your laptop computer. There is another VGA connector available under the plate as an alternate in case the attached cable breaks. If two laptops are connected to the Desk's VGA ports, the fixed port will override the cable version. If you have audio in your presentation you will also need to connect a PC audio cable (PC Audio and Ethernet cables are available for checkout from Media Services.) Turn on your computer, press the Projection On, and PC buttons on the desk's touch screen. If your laptop's screen appears on the room's screen you are ready to go, if not, you may need to mirror your laptop's screen onto the projector. Source Selection
  • Press the Projection On button and then the source button that you wish to use.
  • There are additional instructions for the PC, VHS, DVD, CD and Auxiliary sources further down this page.

PC
Selects the Laptop PC input to be displayed on the screen.
DVD/CD
Select the DVD/CD Source button and then either the DVD or CD source that you wish to use. DVD selects the desk's built-in DVD/CD player to be displayed on the room's screen, CD also selects the desk's built-in DVD/CD player but this setting is for audio only, you can leave the projector off.
VHS/AUX
Select the VHS/AUX Source button and then either the VHS or AUX source that you wish to use. VHS selects the desk's built-in VHS player to be displayed on the room's screen, AUX selects the desk's built-in RCA video and audio jacks (located on the DVD/VHS player.) The yellow RCA input is for video (adapter available at the Media Services office) and the white  RCA input is for audio. There is also an XLR connection available (to the right of the yellow and white RCA inputs) where you can plug in an external microphone (microphones can be checked out at Media Services).
The auxiliary signal can be recorded on the desk's built-in VCR as well as displayed on the screen.

Lights

LIGHTS
These buttons control the fluorescent ceiling lights. There are two zones of lights which can be controlled by the High, Low and Off buttons. The High button turns on both light zones, the Low button turns on one light zone and the Off button turns off all of the fluorescent lights.
SUPPORT LIGHTS
These controls turn the incandescent ceiling lights On or Off and the up/down arrow buttons brighten or dim them.

Volume, Microphone, Screen and Lectern Controls
VOLUME
These controls adjust the overall volume for the PC, DVD, VCR and Auxiliary sources. Additional volume adjustments for your laptop PC may be done on the computer itself.
MICROPHONE
The Microphone UP/DOWN buttons adjust the microphone volume. There is an XLR connection located on the Desk's DVD/VHS player where you can plug in an external microphone (microphones can be checked out at Media Services).
SCREEN
Lowers and raises the Projection Screen. To stop the screen at any point, press the button again.
LECTERN
Raises and lowers the desk to allow for desk or lectern use.
PC/Laptop Video Projection
LAPTOP COMPUTER PROJECTION

SCREEN SETTINGS (Normal, Full, True)
There are three screen settings for PC projection:
  • Normal - Keeps your computer screen's aspect ratio and fills the projection screen with it while placing black bars on the sides
  • Full - Stretches your computer screen to fit the full height and width of the projection screen
  • True - Zooms your computer screen to fit the full width of the projection screen and crops the top and bottom of your image

PICTURE ADJUST
Press the Picture Adjust button to optimize the image quality of the projection screen

DVD Controls
  • There are two screens to control DVD use. The uppermost screen appears when the DVD/CD source button is pressed. The lower screen on the right appears when the Go to Advanced button is pressed and it has advanced controls for the DVD player. To return to the main DVD/CD interface screen, press the Back button.

DVD INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the DVD source, Insert your DVD disk into the player, press the Projection On and DVD/CD buttons on the main interface and then the DVD button on the middle screen. The DVD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.

  • Normal - Keeps your computer screen's aspect ratio and fills the projection screen with it while placing black bars on the sides
  • Zoom - Zooms your computer screen to fit the full width of the projection screen and crops the top and bottom of your image
  • Natural - Stretches your computer screen to fit the full height and width of the projection screen, best for Letterbox and widescreen movies.

DVD CONTROLS - Main Screen Interface
Press the Play button to play the DVD. The Stop button stops the DVD, the Pause button pauses the DVD, the <Scene and Scene> buttons skip to other movie chapters, and the Eject button ejects the DVD.
DVD CONTROLS - Advanced Screen Interface
Press the Go to Advanced button on the DVD/CD main screen to bring up the Advanced Screen interface. The DVD transport controls are the same as those on the Main Screen interface. The triangular arrow buttons in the North, South, East and West positions navigate through a DVD disk's menu options. The Select button selects the DVD option that is highlighted. The Menu button returns to a DVD disk's main menu. The Scan buttons scan through the DVD video. The Subtitle button brings up the subtitles menu, repeatedly pushing the button cycles through your available language options.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up/Down buttons for adjustment.

CD Controls

CD PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS
Insert the CD into the player, press the DVD/CD button on the main interface and then the CD button on the middle screen. The CD can take up to a minute to load so please be patient.
CD PLAYER CONTROLS
Press the Play button to play the CD. The Stop button stops the CD, the Pause button pauses the CD, the <Scan and Scan> buttons scan through the audio, and the <Track and Track> buttons skip through the tracks on the CD.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up/Down buttons for adjustment.

 

Main Screen Interface
VHS Tape Controls

VHS TAPE INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the VHS tape source insert your VHS tape into the desk's VCR, press the Projector On and VHS/AUX buttons on the main interface and then the VHS button on the middle screen.

There are three screen settings for VHS projection:

  • Normal - Keeps your computer screen's aspect ratio and fills the projection screen with it while placing black bars on the sides
  • Zoom - Zooms your computer screen to fit the full width of the projection screen and crops the top and bottom of your image
  • Natural - Stretches your computer screen to fit the full height and width of the projection screen

VCR CONTROLS
Press the Play button to play the VHS tape. The Stop button stops the VHS tape, the Pause button pauses the VHS tape, the Rewind and Forward buttons move through the VHS tape, and the Eject button ejects the VHS tape.
COUNTER ON-OFF
This button toggles the onscreen timer display on and off.
VOLUME
Adjusts the overall presentation volume, push the Volume Up/Down buttons for adjustment.

 

Main Screen Interface
AUX (Auxiliary Input) Controls

AUXILIARY SOURCE INSTRUCTIONS
To operate the AUX source press the Projector On and VHS/AUX buttons on the main interface and then the AUX button on the middle screen.
The AUX button selects the RCA inputs located on the DVD/CD/VCR. The yellow input is for video (adapter available at the Media Services office) and the white input is for audio. Hook your auxiliary source (such as a video camera) into these inputs.
There is also an XLR connection available (to the right of the yellow and white RCA inputs) where you can plug in an external microphone (microphones can be checked out at Media Services). The Microphone UP/DOWN buttons control the microphone volume.

There are three screen settings for AUX projection:

  • Normal - Keeps your computer screen's aspect ratio and fills the projection screen with it while placing black bars on the sides
  • Zoom - Zooms your computer screen to fit the full width of the projection screen and crops the top and bottom of your image
  • Natural - Stretches your computer screen to fit the full height and width of the projection screen

AUXILIARY SOURCE INSTRUCTIONS
Operate your auxiliary input source (such as a video camera) as you normally would and the signal from it should be displayed on the room's LCD projector screen.

VCR RECORDING CONTROLS
The auxiliary signal can be recorded on the built-in VCR as well as displayed on the screen. To initiate this process follow the Auxiliary Source Instructions above to hook up your camera. Make sure that you have a VHS tape in the VCR, and then hit Record on the AUX menu in the middle window. The VCR should now be recording the video signal from your external camera.
COUNTER ON-OFF
