Jamal Deek | Dr. Jaime Schmidt; Audit Committee Litigation

My research with Professor Schmidt revolved around audit committee litigation. Basically the research entailed examining the board of directors of hundreds of companies and identifying correlations between certain board member positions with company litigation in their tenure. I found the fraud applications to be very interesting - the research was based upon empirical evidence to ascertain where gaps in corporate governance might reside. Aside from the academic experience, working with Dr. Jaime Schmidt was an absolute pleasure. Sometimes I felt like my work was unsatisfactory, but Jaime was a great mentor and helped guide me in the right direction. I definitely enjoyed the opportunity to assist with her research and would advise anyone to get involved. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________

For Faculty

Tenure track faculty members may apply for undergraduate research assistant funding through their department chairs, and will receive final approval from the Associate Dean for Research. Watch for the call for requests from the undergraduate dean during the first or second week of class in the fall and spring semesters. There is no summer research assistantship.

For University-wide Research Assistant rules, visit the Handbook of Operating Procedures.

Interested faculty should contact Prof. Laura Starks, Associate Dean for Research, for further information on the program’s administration and application process.
