Technology@McCombs | Orientation

Texas Executive MBA at Mexico City

The information on the tabs below will guide you through the technology resources available to you at McCombs and help you use them.

Your Computer Accounts

You have two computer accounts that you will use as a McCombs MBA.

UT EID

Your UT EID is provided by the University to perform secure actions.  This is the account you used to apply to the University of Texas.  It is managed by the UT Information Technology Services (ITS) department.  Therefore, you should address any questions or issues with it to the ITS Help Desk.  You can reset your password or lookup your EID at the EID Self Service Tools Site

Your UT EID is used to:

  • login to Blackboard
  • access the wireless internet
  • use WebSpace to store files
  • login to the UT Direct portal

McCombs Account

The second account is your McCombs Account, also known as your MSB Account.  MSB is short for McCombs School of Business.  Get your Login Account name and set the password at the Password Change Site

Your MSB Account is used to:

  • check your McCombs email
  • login to any SharePoint based web site, like your McCombs MySite
  • login to the Business School computer labs

Acceptable Use Policy

When you use your UTEID, your MSB account, or any other UT or McCombs technology resources, you must follow UT's Acceptable Use Policy. These rules apply any time you’re using a UT computing resource. That could be using a computer in one of the labs, sending email from your McCombs email account, or just using UT’s wireless internet access.

You are responsible for following all of the computing policies. They can be found at http://www.utexas.edu/cio/policies/pdfs/AUP.pdf.

Here are some of the most commonly broken policies:

  1. Don’t let anyone else use your accounts. Never give out your password.
  2. Don’t send rude, threatening, or harassing email, even as a joke.
  3. You may not profit from the use of a university computing resource.
  4. Don’t send spam.
  5. Do not violate copyright laws.
  6. Don’t hack into any UT systems.

Email @ McCombs

Your McCombs email address follows the naming convention:
First.Last@mba13.mccombs.utexas.edu

If you would like to change the first or last name used in your McCombs email, from your McCombs account, send a message to namechange@mccombs.utexas.edu.   Include your MSB number and your preferred name for your email address.  Your email address must follow the First.Last format.

McCombs gives you an email account with 100 MB of server space.

Access Your Email

You can log into your McCombs email using your MSB number and the accompanying password.  You can access your email using the following methods:

  • Outlook Web Access – http://mail.mccombs.utexas.edu
  • Outlook
  • Entourage
  • MAC mail (if your Mac has Snow Leopard or a later operating system)
  • Mobile Devices

For instructions for accessing your McCombs Email through Outlook, Entourage, or on a mobile device, go to:
www.mccombs.utexas.edu/tech/help
Search term:  Email Setup

Password Expiration

Once a year your MSB Account password expires.  If you are unable to log into your email, and it has been about a year since you last set your password, it is likely that your password has expired.  To set a new password, go to the Password Change Site.

Email Forwarding

Your McCombs email can be forwarded to another email address. Find more information about it at http://ford.its.utexas.edu/wiki/index.php/Email_forwarding
