Austin and UT Legend George Kozmetsky Passes Away George Kozmetsky, a legendary figure at The University of Texas at Austin and throughout the state, passed away April 30 in Austin. Over his 16-year tenure as dean of the UT College and Graduate School of Business (1966-1982), Kozmetsky brought significant improvements to practically every facet of the school, transforming it from a regional institution into a national powerhouse for research and business education. Vocal Smoke Detector Wins MOOT Corp® A patented vocal smoke detector that will reduce the number of deaths and injuries to children during residential fires won the grand prize at the 20th annual Global MOOT Corp competition. Kidsmart Corporation, a team of MBA student entrepreneurs from the University of Georgia, beat 29 teams from the world's top business schools to take home the $100,000 prize. Read more. On Eve of Retirement, Joe Culver Receives Eyes of Texas Award Joe Culver, senior lecturer in management, has been awarded the Eyes of Texas Excellence Award for spring 2003. Faculty Receive McCombs School Teaching & Research Awards for 2002-03 Eleven faculty members were recently honored as recipients of teaching and research excellence awards from the McCombs School. MBA Women Offer Insights to Undergraduates On Wednesday, April 23, the Graduate Women in Business (GWIB) welcomed women from across campus to a discussion about careers in business and the MBA degree.
