UBC President Sean Paul Praises BBA Program in Recent Texas Monthly Article

In Texas Monthly’s October cover story, editor Paul Burka writes, “Business is the most sought-after major on [the UT] campus, and value-added has a lot to do with it: First, a student can acquire a skill that might actually lead to a job, and second, it’s just an exciting place to be. ‘Professors will drop by at two in the morning to check with people who are working on a project,’ said senior Sean Paul, the president of the Undergraduate Business Council.” Read an excerpt of the story.

Texas Black Business Hall of Fame Inducts Honorees

John Butler, management professor and director of the Herb Kelleher Center for Entrepreneurship, will be one of the keynote speakers October 17 as UT Austin’s Center for Black Business History, Entrepreneurship, and Technology (CBBH) conducts its first conference, “The Federal Government and Black Business.” Following the conference, the CBBH will initiate the Texas Black Business Hall of Fame by honoring its first inductees. McCombs, BusinessWeek Team Up for Forum on Improving Corporate Governance

Michael Dell, Herb Kelleher, Edward Whitacre and former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley headline a roster of CEOs, academics and national experts who will explore the future of corporate governance in a two-day forum at the McCombs School, October 29-30. The event is one of four “BusinessWeek CEO Leadership Forums with America’s Best B-Schools,” scheduled this fall at McCombs, Kellogg, Wharton and UC Berkeley.  Get the full story.

Top Schools Return to Texas for Real Estate Challenge

The top business school talents in the nation will square off at the McCombs School Friday, October 31, for the second annual national real estate finance case challenge. Hosted by the McCombs School’s Center for Real Estate Finance, the case-based competition will feature MBA teams from Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Kellogg, Wharton, Berkeley and six other leading programs. Mahajan Work Nominated for Best Marketing Book

The American Marketing Academy (AMA) named McCombs School marketing professor and dean of the Indian School of Business Vijay Mahajan a finalist for the 2003 Berry-AMA Book Prize annually recognizing the best book in marketing. Brockett, Alpert and Golden Receive Best Paper Prize

At this August’s meeting of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA), McCombs School professors Patrick Brockett, Mark Alpert and Linda Golden received the ARIA Research Prize for 2003, awarded to the authors of the best annual paper in the Journal of Risk and Insurance. Their pioneering work on a mathematical technique for fraud detection in insurance claims will be sent to actuaries across the country and will serve as the subject of an actuarial conference in May 2004. Green is Good: MBAs Host National Net Impact Conference

Reflecting the philosophy that green business is good business, the McCombs School will host a national conference November 6-9 for over 1,000 MBAs, business leaders, and alumni from around the world to discuss corporate social responsibility, ethics and environmental business.
