McCombs Student Ambassador Program

History

The McCombs Student Ambassador Program began as a joint effort between the Office of Resource Development and the Undergraduate Programs Office.  It was inspired by a presentation by the University of Kansas at the CASE Donor Relations Conference in 2001.

The resulting product was the McCombs Student Ambassador Program (MSAP). The purpose of the program is to showcase a select group of student to Alumni, Donors, VIPs, and the general public while providing a prestigious leadership opportunity for students. In addition, the McCombs Student Ambassadors (MSAs) serve in a supporting role to the Undergraduate Programs Office and the Office of Resource Development.

As the reputation of the MSAs has grown, their responsibilities have grown to include the implementation of the annual Family Weekend program, Explore UT, and Gone to Business. They have also expanded their network within the McCombs School of Business to include projects from External Relations, the MBA Program and now work more closely with the weekly Undergraduate Admissions sessions.

What is a McCombs Student Ambassador?

As a McCombs Student Ambassador, you have been chosen to serve as a representative of the McCombs School of Business. By representing the student body of McCombs, you have been placed into a position of leadership and service. This responsibility is more than assisting with event logistics; it “involves a desire to serve, a commitment to improve, and an attitude of selflessness” (College of Agricultural and Life Sciences [CALS], 2007). Due to the fact that you have been selected to join this prestigious organization, you should take your role seriously and fulfill your responsibilities with pride and commitment (CALS, 2007).

The goal of the MSAP is to facilitate leadership development and civic engagement.  It is an opportunity to build communication and networking skills in a team-oriented environment.  It is our hope that the skills and experiences you gain as a MSA will assist you in both your personal and professional future.
