  How to Apply

  All freshman applicants to the Business Honors Program must complete both the ApplyTexas Application and the supplemental Online Honors Application, listing "unspecified business" as the first major choice.  Once the applicant has completed both applications and submitted the supplemental materials, he or she may be invited to interview.  Applicants invited to interview will receive a decision within approximately 6 - 8 weeks of the date on which the interview is completed.

  The BHP admits a limited number of transfer students into the program after they have completed their freshman year of college. Current UT business students, UT students from other colleges, and students planning to transfer to UT from other institutions are all eligible to apply.

  Sophomore transfer applications are evaluated heavily upon academic performance, the rigor of their first-year schedule, and on their ability to demonstrate leadership and initiative outside of the classroom. High school performance is not considered.

  The BHP student recruiters are current students who work as part of the BHP admissions team to serve as the first and best resource for any questions you might have during the admissions process--from problems with the application to the best way to spend a weekend in Austin.

  The student recruiters also deliver our information sessions, which we encourage all applicants to attend. To RSVP for a session, visit Be a Longhorn and click on the “Services” link on top. The McCombs session begins at 1:00 pm, followed by a tour of the business school and the BHP session.

BHP Profiles  

Goldman Sachs Global Leader

Second year business honors and plan II major Rebecca Counts has been recently named one of sixteen Goldman Sachs Global Leaders. This Award is given to the top sixteen candidates nation wide who demonstrate exceptional qualities in academic achievement, leadership abilities, potential for growth, communication skills, personal qualities and ethical character. Eight of the US Global Leaders will be selected to attend a week-long leadership session in New York over the summer.

Study Abroad: Prague

Third year business honors and finance major Heather Schilling attended The University of Economics (VSE) in Prague through the BBA study abroad exchange program. Says Heather, "The VSE has a diverse international student culture, and this diversity is enhanced by the the in-class and student life experience. My time abroad was both scholastically and culturally enriching, and it helped me learn more about myself and develop lasting friendships as I visited places I'd never imagined seeing."

The Internship Experience

During the summer of 2007, 4th year business honors and management major Jennifer Adams interned at Epic Records in Los Angeles through the UT Los Angeles Internship Program. The position allowed Jennifer to work with the senior VP's of A&R and of the digital media and marketing department. She learned the inner workings of creating a record label as well as the ins and outs of the business strategies involved with the release of new albums. Jennifer also enjoyed the perks of attending concerts, having first picks at music collections, and enjoying the behind the scenes filming of MTV shows.

Draddy Trophy

BHP graduate Dallas Griffin was presented with the 2007 Draddy Trophy at the annual National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame banquet on December 4, 2007 in New York City. This award is presented to the player who is the best in the country in combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership. Having completed his football career, Dallas is still at UT, now working towards his latest goal of completing a McCombs MBA.

Building Initiative

Pegah Javidpour has a great passion for teaching. After completing a post-graduate semester traveling across Peru, Pegah will begin teaching in inner-city Houston as part of the Teach for America project. In May 2007, She and two colleagues won a $10,000 grant from the RGK Social Entrepreneurship Competition to help build the Bridge Academy--a non-profit teaching academy for the migrant farm worker population in South Texas.

Entrepreneur

At only 19, second year BHP student Alex Schliker has already launched three online business. His entrepreneurial drive helped him and three other BHP team members win first place in the 2007 Austin Student Consulting Initiative Competition. The team laid out a winning marketing strategy for local company Empanadas La Boca to further their customer reach and enhance their 10 year-old empanada baking business. Schliker also participated in the Texas 4K, a cycling tour from Austin to Alaska  that raises money for cancer research and awareness.

The BHP staff, faculty, alumni and professional network work together to bring current students a resource of academic and professional opportunities year round.
