Financial Aid and Study Abroad
The University of Texas at Austin
encourages students to learn more about funding for study abroad programs early
in their decision-making process. The CIBER Summer Study Abroad Programs differ
in some ways from other study abroad programs where financial aid is concerned,
as students are registered for the classes through the Division of Continuing &
Extended Education, University Extension. Students who are eligible to
receive financial aid through the
Office of Student Financial Services (OSFS) may apply
for summer aid as they normally would. The following guideline is intended to
help students determine whether they can receive summer funding through the OSFS
during their summer of participation in the CIBER Summer Study Abroad Programs.
During the spring semester, program participants will
register for CIBER Summer Study Abroad Program courses via University Extension.
Please note you will be unable to view your summer registration via UTDirect,
but the OSFS will be able to check on your summer registration in order to
approve summer funding. It is important that you meet the CIBER Summer
Study Abroad course registration deadlines in order to avoid delay of your
summer aid.
If you plan to apply for summer financial aid, you must
indicate your intention to do so on the
Study
Abroad Portal. It is extremely important that you notify
your
Study Abroad Advisor
(in CIBER) and your
Financial Aid Counselor of your intent to request
summer funding, so they are aware of your plans and can facilitate the process.
This helps ensure that you receive appropriate information and instructions
concerning your summer funding and will help avoid potential delays.
