Directors' Welcome

Welcome to the web site of CIBER at UT-Austin’s McCombs School of Business. We are the McCombs School’s “window on the world,” dedicated to globalizing business education by providing opportunities for our students and faculty to interact with students, educators and business professionals from around the world.

As one of 31 CIBERs funded by the U.S. Department of Education to serve as national resource centers for international business education, our mandate is to enhance the global competitiveness of U.S. businesses by targeting three basic goals:

  • globalize business education and research;
  • integrate business and non-business education as it relates to international business issues; and
  • create a partnership between the business community and the University of Texas to enhance international business knowledge and expertise in both arenas.

Among CIBER’s many successes, we are especially proud of the international business-school network that we have established for our faculty and students.  Through membership in the prestigious Partnership in International Management (PIM) consortium, and with bilateral agreements ranging from Singapore to São Paulo, these programs help our future business professionals see the world, and its business opportunities, through the eyes of those from another culture.  This is achieved both by sending our students to study abroad and by bringing students from abroad to study and interact with our students here in Austin.

Given our proximity to the southern border of the U.S., it should come as no surprise that CIBER is active in helping the McCombs School nurture its deep ties to Latin America. These ties include student exchange and Spanish-language training, but go far beyond to comprise scholarly interaction, doctoral education, and faculty exchanges.

And, given the importance of Asia in world economic affairs, it should also come as no surprise that CIBER also is developing notable programs on Asia, ranging from symposia to new partner relationships.

To accomplish all of this, we receive substantial support and encouragement from the administration of the McCombs School.  We also work closely with other organizations at UT-Austin to leverage resources.  UT-Austin boasts four Title VI Area Studies National Resource Centers (listed below), several other excellent Area Studies Centers, and a renowned international faculty in the LBJ School of Public Affairs.  We also collaborate with the College of Liberal Arts to bring business knowledge to language students and language knowledge to business students.

We hope you find this web site useful and hope to see you at a future CIBER event.
