The University of Texas at Austin urges all of those
whose records were exposed in the data theft at McCombs, if they have
not done so already, to place a free fraud alert with one of the three
main credit monitoring agencies. The initial fraud alert protects you
for 90 days, and you may renew it.
It is quick and easy. Step-by-step instructions can be found at
Fraud Alert, Data Theft and Identify Theft
Resources.
In addition, beyond the free fraud alert, you may consider commercial
services that offer additional credit protection available for purchase.
While UT cannot recommend specific services, some firms are offering
discounts to those whose records were exposed in the data theft at
McCombs.
To take advantage of the discounts being offered, locate your
discount code
in the notification letter or e-mail you received from
the McCombs School of Business. This code will work for any service
listed below. Please note: The UT discount offer is valid until
September 30, 2006.
As a consumer, please evaluate the suitability of these products for your own personal circumstances. The University of Texas at Austin does not endorse any commercial program or product, and the offering of these discounts does not imply endorsement.
