Established in 1948, the Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) program in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin is a leader in graduate accounting education. Through our rigorous admissions process, we pair ambitious, hard-working and talented students with our cutting-edge research faculty and carefully designed curriculum. The result is a select cadre of accounting graduates equipped with skills suitable for many careers in fields including

  • Consulting
  • Corporate Finance
  • Financial services and investment banking
  • Public Accounting

The MPA degree will afford you marketability, flexibility and advancement - essential ingredients for long-term career success. In addition, MPA students have the opportunity to qualify to sit for the CPA exam.

Accounting is a pervasive and necessary element of businesses of all types. For an overview, see Accounting in Business and Economics (ABE).

In order to accommodate the diversity of educational backgrounds, we have developed three approaches toward obtaining the degree.

Traditional MPA

The traditional approach to the MPA degree is designed for applicants who have already earned a bachelor's degree. Flexible in scope, the traditional approach welcomes students with degrees in business, liberal arts, natural sciences and other disciplines.

Integrated MPA (formerly PPA)

Undergraduate students in the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin are encouraged to consider the integrated approach to the MPA Program, in which students earn the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and the MPA degree concurrently.

ECO-MPA

Outstanding undergraduate students in the economics major at The University of Texas at Austin are eligible to apply to the ECO-MPA Path which enables students to complete twelve hours of graduate accounting courses in their senior year towards obtaining a master's degree.
