Departmental Scholarships
The Department of Accounting, through the support of dedicated alumni, employment partners, and other friends, is able to make a number of scholarships available to accounting students in the Bachelor's of Business Administration (BBA) and Masters in Professional Accounting (MPA) programs. The scholarships vary in amount from $150 to $2,500 and are disbursed during the fall and spring semesters each year. Award decisions are made during the summer and all applicants are notified of the decisions as soon as possible.
In order to be eligible for these awards you must have completed at least 9 hours of accounting (except for entering MPA students). Most recipients have GPAs of 3.0 or better, but individuals with lower GPAs are also considered.
Departmental scholarships are awarded primarily on the basis of academic achievement in accounting and overall academic work. Some scholarship donors stipulate that awards be made only to students with demonstrated financial need or to students with specific interests or qualifications. Some of the questions on the application are designed to identify these students. While you are not required to complete all questions, the Department may not be able to consider your application for all awards without this information. Note that in order to be considered for scholarships which have a financial need criterion you must have a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the UT Office of Student Financial Services.
To maximize the number of students benefited, the Department considers all sources of award monies when making award decisions. Receipt of a major scholarship from sources outside the Department reduces the likelihood of your receiving a departmental scholarship.
