Required of all Business Students
FIN 357 Business Finance.
Principles of finance, with application to all aspects of the business
firm; particular attention to cost of capital, investment decisions,
management of assets, and procurement of funds. Prerequisite:
Admission to a business major, Accounting 312, Statistics 309, Economics
304K and 304L, and credit or registration for Business Administration

FIN 353 Internship Requirement,

The purpose of the internship requirement is to help students reflect
on their learning while in an educational employment position. This
reflection should lead to:
Opportunities to practice academic learning
Increased professional skills
Integrated learning about how specific projects relate to larger business goals
Further ability to match career/employment choices with personal interaction styles and abilities
Greater understanding of business processes
Students must set up an internship and have it approved by the department before they will be allowed to register for the course.
FIN 367 Investment Management.
Investment theory, alternatives, and decision making under differing
uncertainties and constraints; formulation of objectives and strategies;
development of conceptual managerial perspectives and philosophies for
investment environments. Prerequisite: Finance 357.
FIN 370 Integrative Finance.
Restricted to graduating seniors in the Department of Finance. Integrates
financial decision making in functional areas of finance; utilizes various
concepts to promulgate strategies, policies, and procedures in managing
finance to achieve objectives. Prerequisite: 90 hours, Finance 357 and
367; 3 additional semester hours chosen from Finance, Real Estate or
Risk Management and Insurance; Credit or Registration for internship
or practicum.

FIN 354 Money, Banking and Economic Conditions.
Restricted to business majors. Students will examine interest
rates, monetary policy, securities and their markets, the Federal Reserve,
business cycles and how financial institutions manage risk. Prerequisite:
Accounting 311, credit or registration for Business Administration 324,
and Economics 304K and 304L.
FIN 366P Finance Practicum.
Restricted to business majors. Students apply skills in their major
area and focus on additional project management skills through group
projects conducted in a professional setting. Students may work with
a private or a public enterprise. The equivalent of three lecture hours
a week for one semester. Prerequisite: Forty-five semester hours of
college coursework and consent of instructor
FIN 371M Money and Capital Markets.
Development of modern financial markets, with emphasis on the factors
that determine interest rates; institutional characteristics and pricing
mechanics of various interest-sensitive securities. Prerequisite:
Finance 357.
FIN 372 Advanced Topics in Finance.
Study of contemporary finance topics and problems. May be repeated
when the topics vary.
FIN 373.1 Advanced Studies in International
Finance.
Students work in small research groups to write academic papers on topics
in international finance and business. Designed to develop critical
thinking skills, writing skills, sophisticated use of technology, and
experience working across different cultures. Prerequisite: Finance

FIN 374C Financial Planning and Policy for
Large Corporations.
An in-depth study of theory and practice of corporate financial
management in establishing major financial and investment policies;
techniques for analysis, evaluation, and control. Prerequisite:
Finance 357.
FIN 374S Entrepreneurial Finance.
Development, implementation, and control of financial plans, strategies,
and policies by owner-managers of small and medium-sized firms; analysis
of alternatives and decision making. Prerequisite: Finance 357.
FIN 375F Banking and Financial Intermediation.
Theory of financial intermediation, regulatory environment, interest
rates, and asset/liability management with a focus on commercial banking;
depository and contractual intermediation. Prerequisite: Finance
357.
FIN 376 International Finance.
The international financial environment, with emphasis on the factors
affecting exchange rates and how exchange rate changes affect the firm.
Prerequisite: Finance 357.
FIN 377.1 Advanced Portfolio Mgmt. & Investment
Analysis, Theory & Application.
Quantitative applications and the underlying theory in the analysis
and management of securities and portfolios; designed for students with
career goals in investments. Prerequisite: Finance 367.
FIN 377.2 Financial Risk Management.
Financial engineering and derivative securities, valuing and hedging
equity, commodity and interest rate derivatives. Prerequisite:
Credit or registration for Finance 367, and Mathematics 408D or 408L.
FIN 377.3 Security Analysis (Financial
Analyst Program).
Security analysis and valuation; financial forecasting, stock and
bond valuation; financial modeling and the discounted cash flow method
of equity valuation; development of techniques for equity and bond research;
overview of portfolio management concepts. Prerequisite: Credit
or registration for Finance 367 and consent of instructor.
FIN 377.4 Financial Analysis.
Financial analysis of a company and its securities; interpretation
of financial statements, financial ratio analysis, and financial modeling;
development of methods for valuing equity and fixed income securities.
Prerequisite: Credit or registration for Finance 367.
FIN 377.5 Energy Financial Risk Management.
Restricted to students in a business major. Finance 377.2
and 377.5 may not both be counted. Prerequisite: Credit or registration
for Finance 367.
FIN 379C Problems in Finance.
Student must arrange the independent study topic with a finance professor
and receive the approval of the department chair.
RE 376G Real Estate Appraisal and Investment.
Study of the setting and measurement of property values in real
estate markets and an analysis of real estate assets as investments.
Prerequisite: Real Estate 358.
RE 378K Real Estate Finance and Syndication.
Debt and equity financing of residential and commercial properties;
mortgage markets and instruments; lender and investor decisions in real
estate financing. Prerequisite: Real Estate 358. Currently offered
in the fall semester only.
