Civil Engineering Block Option

Civil engineering is the discipline responsible for the design, construction, and operation of physical works and facilities used by the public such as factories, high-rise buildings, and bridges. It is responsible for city and regional planning including the layout and construction of highways and pipelines.

The ERB faculty advisor recommends that ERB majors with an civil block option take the following set of courses. Students may also create their own course sets based on those listed on the degree plan; however, this course set have been designed to have the fewest number of prerequisites and the best grouping of applicable coursework.

 Set #1 Project Management and Design
 

ARE 323K Project Management and Economics This course is required for this block option! Prerequisite: M408D	AND	ARE 366  Contracts, Liability, and Ethics Prerequisite: upper-division standing required.
ARE 320K Introduction to Design Prerequisite: credit or registration for ARE 217 or equivalent.* This is a FALL only course.		ARE 320L Introduction to Design II   Prerequisite: ARE 320K This is a SPRING only course.

*NOTE:	This block option requires ARE 217, Computer Aided Design and Graphics, a prerequisite that is not built into the degree; ERB students may use ME 210 to satisfy this prerequisite.

ARE 358 Cost Estimating in Building Construction   Prerequisite: ARE 335		ARE 335 Materials and Methods of Building Construction   Prerequisite: CE 314K

*NOTE:	This block option requires EM 319, a prerequisite which is not built in to the degree. Students must meet all prerequisites set by the College of Engineering.
