Center for Research in Electronic Commerce – Director: Professor Andrew Whinston
The Center for Research in Electronic Commerce (CREC) was established in 1989 to provide a focal point for innovative research into the effective development, use, and management of computer and communication technologies by organizations in today’s global, competitive marketplace. Its goal is to facilitate a match between academic research and the problems faced by today’s corporations and government agencies in exploiting the vast array of information technologies now available.
Today’s maturing e-business and Internet-based economy require collaborative investigations among researchers in diverse disciplines, and CREC’s research areas reflect its emphasis on interdisciplinary e-business research that crisscross information systems management, computer science, accounting, economics, and law in close alliance with industry leaders. Current research activities actively seek to provide an efficient and effective framework for global e-business and the digital economy. Such priorities are reflected in our ongoing projects such as E-Business Value Assessment, Economic Modeling of Network Management, Financial Bundle Trading System, Online Auctions and Smart E-Marketplaces, Pricing Project for Dynamic Digital Documents and Open Source Development Environment, Application Service Providers and Contract Choices, and Knowledge Management and Incentive Structures. To make these projects matter in the sustained development of the Internet economy, CREC continues to collaborate with industry partners and focuses on the feasibility in adapting models into functional applications.
