The Department of Marketing
administers the marketing doctoral
program. Dedication to teaching and
research excellence has propelled the
department and the Graduate School of
Business into the forefront of business
education and research internationally.

The University of Texas at Austin
In its 122 years, The University of
Texas at Austin has grown from a small
campus of forty acres near the State
Capitol to become a major institution
known internationally for the quality
of its academic programs, research, and
public service.
As the academic flagship of the UT
System's fifteen component
institutions, UT Austin has come far
from its beginning in 1883, when it had
only one building, eight teachers, two
departments, and 221 students. Today,
it has a main campus of 350 acres and
120 buildings that are home to more
than 50,000 students, 2,700 faculty and
nearly 17,000 staff members. Over time
UT Austin has awarded more than 345,000
degrees. Among its graduates are Lady
Bird Johnson, Walter Cronkite, Bill
Moyers, and Lloyd Doggett. Seven
doctoral programs at UT Austin rank in
the top 10 in the nation, and 22 others
rank in the top 25. Among Texas
schools, UT Austin is ranked No. 1 in
30 of the 37 fields in which it was
evaluated.

on the banks of the Colorado River. The
Austin metropolitan and surrounding
area has a population of more than a
million people; the city itself has a
population of approximately 650,000.
