U.S. News Ranks Undergrad Program #6
For 2004-2005, U.S. News & World Report ranked McCombs the #6 undergraduate business program in the country. The school earned rankings in 11 of 12 specialty areas. Overall, UT Austin ranked 46th among national universities and 14th among public universities. Joseph on Today’s Tax Debate: History Weighs In
Talk of tax reform has recently resounded in Congress, with some lawmakers advocating elimination of the IRS. It’s all eerily familiar to Richard Joseph, a tax expert at McCombs and author of "The Origins of the American Income Tax: The Revenue Act of 1894 and Its Aftermath." Joseph hears echoes of today’s disputes in the Congressional debates from 1894 and 1913.

Senior Undergrad Wins Award for Nonprofit Visions
In July, the LeaderShape Institute recognized Mary Xu, a McCombs senior in MIS, with the 2004 Palmer Award scholarship for her commitment to community service. The award was based on her ambitious plans for two nonprofits, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Texas Spirits.

McCombs MBA Ranks #4 for Hispanics
A small group of elite schools with a strengthening commitment to diversity "are playing an increasingly critical role in advancing the U.S. Hispanic economy," writes Janet Perez in the latest edition of Hispanic Business, which ranks the top 10 MBA and law schools for Hispanics. The McCombs MBA placed #4 in the nation behind #1 Stanford, #2 Yale, and #3 New York University. The ranking is based on levels of Hispanic enrollment, faculty, student services, and retention rate, coupled with data on national reputation.
