McCombs School Names New Assistant Dean and Director of DEMBA, HEMBA
Lisa Kaminski, former assistant dean of the business school at
Georgetown University, has been named assistant dean and director of the
Houston and Dallas MBA programs at The University of Texas at Austin’s
McCombs School of Business. A graduate of Harvard University, Kaminski
brings more than 20 years of experience in higher education
administration to the position. Most recently, for the last six years,
Kaminski served as the assistant dean at Georgetown University in
Washington D.C., where she was responsible for the non-degree,
certificate and custom executive programs. She was also the director of
Georgetown’s executive MBA, consistently ranked by BusinessWeek magazine
among the top executive MBAs in the United States.

Entrepreneurs Should Cultivate Employee Satisfaction, Personal
Discomfort, Says Kelleher
Although employee satisfaction has always been the top priority at
Southwest Airlines, its founder advises entrepreneurs to forget about
their own preferences when looking for directors. “Pick people for the
board who you’re uncomfortable with,” says Herb Kelleher in his keynote
lecture at the 21st Century Governance for Early-Stage Companies
conference.

McCombs Undergraduate Team Wins First Place in Real Estate Competition
A team of McCombs students won first place in the USC Marshall School’s
undergraduate real estate case competition this past April. The case,
written by Wells Fargo Real Estate Group, involved the analysis of a
three-building office campus development, including risk mitigation,
project financing, development options, and a viable exit strategy.

Student Magazine Names Three BBAs Leading Longhorns
Not many students at The University of Texas at Austin can say they’ve
been on the cover of a magazine before graduation day. BBAs Jonathan
Gill, Kenny Liao, and David O’Connell, however, can now make this claim
to fame. The three were recognized as Leading Longhorns in the Spring
2005 issue of ORANGE—UT Austin’s student magazine, produced in the
School of Journalism. A faculty panel chose the 20 Leading Longhorns
from a pool of about 70 applicants nominated by professors, peers and
themselves. Selections were based on the student’s GPA, volunteerism,
leadership positions, athleticism and—most importantly—creativity.
